Some false data in this report
Oct 16 2007, 2:36 PM EDT The dubbing information is inaccurate--Ursula Andress, Gert Frobe, Claudine Auger, Shirley Eaton, Tetsuro Tamba, Gabrielle Ferzetti, and the gal who played Sylvia Trench were all dubbed. Frobe, Celi, Bianchi and Hama were dubbed because they had difficulties with English and couldn't be understood by Harry Saltzman. Re-casting voices was a pretty common procedure in the early days of Bond. Also, I'd dispute the "Highest Paid Male Model" in 1968 info. Maybe because he played Bond that year, but not just for his modelling work. Lazenby was fairly unknown at the time. 4 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Some false data in this report
Jan 2 2008, 6:36 PM EST It is true that the dubbing information was inaccurate, however, George Lazenby's take on the James Bond role is not to be discouraged. Lazenby added a unique sense of flair to the role. He was, in fact, the highest paid model in the world in 1968. Reportedly, in 1967, he made £40,000 directly from modelling, and £60,000 from commercials and product endorsements — equivalent to more than one million pounds in 2004. He was also the European Marlboro Man. Clearly he was obviously very well known. Lazenby is also the only official Bond to make reference to the fact that other actors have played the role. All credits to Lazenby as 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' remains a very good Bond film. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Some false data in this report
Jan 2 2008, 10:11 PM EST To say "he added a unique sense of flair to the role" is saying nothing. "Unique" merely says he did it his way, nothing more. George Bush has a unique way of running the country, too. He was paid 100,000 pounds in 1967, and yet he was selling cars at the same time (per Lazenby)? Interesting career choices. And, please don'e obfuscate with the "in today's dollars" figures. There are lies, damned lies, and then there are statistics. Name the American Marlboro Man. How well known is that? He was the Fry Chocolate Man--that was his big claim to fame--you can probably find it on YouTube. "Lazenby is also the only official Bond to make reference to the fact that other actors have played the role." As a joke, and I'm not sure this is something that should be mounted in the Hall of Fame. "I am such a shockingly different person than the superstar who played the role before me that I'd better make a joke out of it?" I give credit to Lazenby where it is due--he is very good in a few scenes. But credit Peter Hunt, Richard Maibaum, Simon Raven and the hundreds of technical crew who made "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" a superior film (not just a superior Bond film, because after all, they didn't have a superior Bond). Let's give credit where it is REALLY due, please. 0 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
