"While he most certainly can't compare to Brosnan or Dalton, Lazenby's only crime is that he's not Sean Connery, which for many a Bond fan, is reason enough to start slinging arrows. Personally, I've never subscribed to the "Connery's the only Bond" mythos, and have always found it telling that Connery should be so critical of those who followed him in the role ("Timothy Dalton had no clue how to play James Bond") when he wanted out of the series after THUNDERBALL and refuses to discuss the films today. In fairrness to Lazenby, it's unfortunate the producers decided to make OHMSS immediately following Connery's departure as the story is the most personal of the Bond canon. ANY actor would have laboured to give that final scene the required emotional resonance at a time when audiences couldn't possibly consider him synonymous with the role. "
