For Pierce/Craig, Judi Was the Best. For Connery/Moore Lee was the Best. It Isn't that you can mix and match them. Judi Would be bad if she was with Connery/Moore and Lee would be bad if he was with pierce/Craig. So I would have to say that they each did very well with the bond that they where given. But if we must order them I would have to say that Bernard Lee was the best <M> he just capture the essence of the book <M> and brought it to the screen. Very nice job to all of them though!! I believe Judi did Set the Standard

Dafinantly

But Lee Was more realistic as, who i believe became "M" Yes i think that Mr Merriot who was also in the service and introduced Bond to MI6 was the Lee "M"

Bernard Lee! The rest are ok, but I think Dench needs to go. Tim Pigott-Smith would play a perfect Bernard Lee type M imho. Do you find this valuable?

I'd just like to say, as a Sarah Palin supporter, it pleases me no end to see we've come so far that a vote for a woman is now obligatory. Woman runs for something, you M-U-S-T vote for her or else you're sexist.

Of course I've never been too wild about cleaning up my act to avoid accusations of sexism...I've even gone so far as to create and purchase sexism credit vouchers to make up for my Palin support, so I can keep my reputation intact. (Come to think of it, since I'm a Judi Dench fan, I shall have to buy a couple more of those.)

But at least I'm consistent.

I'm sure you are too. Welcome to the Palin fan club.

Lee set stanard for M being he played Bonds boss frist.
1. Lee or Lee and Dench tied
2.Dench
3.Brown
There are two reasons that there would not have a female spy boss '60s, '70s, and '80s and in the '60s and '70s certainly in being a bond girl would been much likely than playing M due the age she is and Bond was then. That is why she was cast as M '95 and still is. Dench play role well from the cilps I have seen but Lee had a different interplay with Bond.

I agree (Bernard Lee – the first, the best), but Judi Dench is also doing a great job as M.

There's no standard. Lee's M was much more tolerant towards Bond's actions. Brown set the disapproval towards Bond's "the end justifies the means" behaviour, reprised by Dame Judi Dench.

I think that all of the actors that played M did a great job in their own way. They each brought something new to the role of Bond's boss.

Always,
