OHMSS
Jul 26 2007, 2:41 AM EDT This is the first Bond movie since Dr.No and From Russia with Love to REALLY stick to the book.Lazenby did a good job for the first-next- Bond. The mood was very Fleming and the cast was excellent with Diana Rigg and Telly Salvalas. I wish they all stuck to this book format. After this they became almost comedys. I f Connery was in this movie it would have been perfect. 4 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

Sep 5 2007, 3:35 PM EDT I agree 100% with you. Even though I did enjoy some of Roger Moore's films, they did become more like comedy films (I hate the tarzan yell in "Octopussy" and the Beach Boys music in "A View To A Kill.) 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Sep 7 2007, 1:34 AM EDT True, way to much tongue in cheek with Roger Moore, and the book plots went to hell too. If Lazenby continued as 007 it would be a differant Bond world now. He may have risen to Sean Connery level if the movies kept the same style as OHMSS. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: OHMSS
Jan 1 2008, 11:05 AM EST A lot of people always say OHMSS would've been perfect if Connery stared in it. I think the movie is brilliant the way it is. I am a big Connery fan, but I think the debate should be over how much better "Diamonds Are Forever" would have been had Lazenby kept the role. I think it would have been more of a revenge film, rather than a campy romp through Las Vegas. I think they had a new formula in mind with Lazenby, but when he decided not to return, they obviously abandonded it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jan 1 2008, 1:27 PM EST Provocative statement by LS1Hawk, but one that I find quite interesting. Lazenby had the chops, the final scene of OHMSS should have proven that; and certaintly the athleticism and the right look. Also, Diamonds are Forever was one of Connery's worst performances. RE: OHMSS
Jan 9 2008, 4:55 PM EST I don't agree here. I think Connery's performance as Bond was much more engaged in DAF than it had been in "You Only Live Twice." Also, given the financial short-fall of OHMSS, you can bet the producers wouldn't have returned to a "revenge" film with Lazenby, or without. It was a conscious decision to re-hire Guy Hamilton, and ratchet up the humor in "Diamonds Are Forever," as the producers felt audiences didn't respond in sufficient numbers to the more serious approach, and the new Bond. Personally, I think OHMSS is a terrific entertainment, and one of the best Bond's, despite Lazenby's less-than-inspired performance. Do you find this valuable? |

Jan 12 2008, 2:44 AM EST Great, great movie. Lazenby's performance was handicapped somewhat by having to spend about a third of the movie pretending to be a prissy baronet -- and another third of the movie falling dizzily in love. Hardly fair, coming right on the heels of the unflappably masculine Connery. But the film's one real weakness has to be Telly Savalas (sans lollipop) as Blofeld. Despite all that, the film has one of the best scores of the entire series, one of the most exciting action sequences (the bobsled chase), and absolutely one of the best Bond girls (Diana Rigg). RE: OHMSS
Feb 6 2008, 5:49 PM EST I agree that this was one of the best 007 movies and I wish Lazenby stuck around for 7 more. He had more depth than he gets credit for. I also don't think acting like Sir Hilary Bray or falling in love was bad, these were character developments that Bond needed to show. A more human side and the ability to go undercover. He is a SPY after all and a man who does have feelings. Connery did that from time to time, ala when he shoots Dent in Dr.No--he does it because he has to,but its clear from the look on his face that he did'nt like it.No smarmy quip or "all in good fun" attitude like Moore. The final scene in OHMSS when he breaks down over Tracy's death was maybe the best 007 moment yet. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Nov 6 2008, 1:06 AM EST It's not my favorite by far! It was too slow and romantic. That's not Bond every one loves, Bond is fast with action and fighting and short flings here and there. Though it's not the worst! (License to Kill!) 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

The instrumental theme and overall score were incredible. And Lazenby more than held up his end - "just a sudden stiffening" indeed. Well done for Laz. It's shame he didn't get another chance - he had all the right ingredients to fill the shoes. Moore did not; which is why he took things in a different direction. Do you find this valuable? |
