Women do Bond best
May 8 2007, 9:22 PM EDT
Women do Bond best . . . lyrics, I mean. The Bond producers should DEFINITELY return to a female singer for the Bond themes, as women (whether it's Shirley Bassey, Sheena Easton, Gladys Knight or Sheryl Crow) seem to present the most striking, sexy, and memorable renditions. Maybe because the franchise is so macho-driven that a woman singing the theme song is something of a few minutes refreshing departure. I'd personally love to see Lisa Stansfield do a jazzy, sultry Bond entry. It's amazing that Stansfield (one of the divas of the modern British 70s soul revival) hasn't gotten a whiff of the Bond franchise. Stansfield's singing set to one of those classic credits roll over fluorescent female forms would be a dazzling way to rev-up Bond 22.

You make some strong points. Save for 'View to a Kill' (the only bond theme to go #1), all the best songs are by women in my opinion too. I think Bassey set the bar high. And with strong women (and submissive ones too) playing a central role in Bond films I like women at the vocal helm.
