My say on the bond actors as a whole

There are so many threads containing the votes and short opinions about the bond actors. Connery the classic favorite, Moore, the smooth funny bond, Dalton the dark bond from the books, and Craig the emotionless blood bath bond with no charm. I've read those over and over, and can't help but think.. no one takes into effect what each has done for bond.

I'll start with the one that bugs me the most, Craig. I was so upset before CR released cause he just did not have that "Bond" look to me like Brosnan or Connery. But I still went and watched the movie in theater and LOVED it. Now, yes, Craig doesn't have the bond charm, more less, he's nothing like the other Bonds we know of, but, no one seems to look at it this way.

CR is Bond at first. Young, just getting 00 status. He's athletic, serious. Want to prove himself to the company. Craig may be lacking charm but.. he's the new guy. He's the unrefined version of Bond. He doesn't woe the ladies because he makes the mistake we've only seen a few times, he falls in love. Perhaps, starting his love for many ladies after being betrayed? (exception of OHMSS but only at the end). QoS was to me, the ending to CR. So i dont' consider it a bad movie in Bond terms, just.. an ending to a great movie. (perhaps this is why it is missing the classic opening gun barrel? it doesn't start nothing new). But all the same finished probably one of the best story Bond films that couldn't be finish in one sitting.

That was my main quarrel about the actors, So a shorter brief on the rest. Connery set the tone, so it's unfair to compare those that followed him. They will always have that "live up to Connery" status because he was the first. Who's to say, it wouldn't be the other way around if Moore had been the first?

Cont.

I am in no way bashing Connery as I love him. I'm just saying it's unfair to compare, it ruins what others have brought to bond as whole. Look at Lazenby. Everyone hates him. But everyone also wants him to be Connery, and he's not. No one is. I honestly wished he would have done more movies myself cause I personally liked OHMSS as a movie, and him as Bond. I can't say much else about him due to him only doing that one movie so i'll move on.

Moore was your more relaxed bond. EXCEPT the during the circus bomb event in Octopussy which I personally wish we'd seen more of out of Moore. The raw emotion and screaming "let me go you idiot, there's a bomb in there!" (not word for word, but you get it). He was for once, not cool, not clam, but acted like a real person. Now, Moore was the more lady's man. The most charm a Bond has ever had was with Moore. He was also the most humorous Bond. Less of the action star but it didn't matter. He done a great job, which is said by most, just take what he gave Bond and enjoy it, his movies are more fun than anything else.

I'll cut myself short of a novel and say I really wish Dalton had more movies. He was fantastic in my eyes as Bond. A mix of Craig and Connery. Brosnan I can't really base a fair opinion of because he was the first Bond I ever watched therefore, the one who happen to be around when I started watching Bond films. He's my Connery. Goldeneye was one of my top 5 easy. He was Bond. Period. He brought everything the others added to the character and made it one person to me. He was charming, funny, but also had that serious, darker side(not as great on the dark as Dalton but showed signs). His downfall was the crazy plots of the movies he acted in. TND and TWINE are pretty out there. I know, alot of peope just went "what about moonraker, and numerous other films in the Moore era.

Well, take into account the times. Today 1995+, people want real. Back then, they loved fantasy and craziness. That's why most hate those 2 movies. Even DAD is considered bad. Even though, I happen to love DAD.. but it's mainly for one reason. The opening to that movie was possibly the best opening yet. Yes, the space weapon has been done before, and the story got crazy the more you watched but overall still a great Bond film set by that opening. Don't fault Brosnan for writers. He was brilliant.

Anyhow, sorry about the novel but I just think people but to much faith in saying a few words about the actors instead of thinking about other things. Such as when the movies were made. What entertained people then, what does now. What the story was, when was the movie and actor set in Bonds career.

In closing I hope i've atleast shown 1 person the light on something. I'm just an opinionated person as we all are, sharing mine in hoping someone will see it my way = ) lol

All very well said, Cyntric. I agree; none of the Bond actors are bad at all and they all do a great job. Craig and Connery are my personal favs but the Bond series certainly wouldn't be where it is now without the input of the other actors too. Each made it their own.
It was necessary for Moore to play a different kind of Bond to avoid too much comparison to Connery, just as Dalton had to make a change after Moore. And Brosnan after Dalton and Craig after Brosnan, etc.
I hear some people say about newer Bonds; "He's not Connery" or "He's not Moore..." I'm glad that they don't try to imitate the older Bonds. Brosnan did great in the role and I'm also a HUGE fan of Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace.
Kudos to all six Bond actors, they each did our franchise proud.
