AVTAK

One of the things I like about this movie is that there is a true sense of suspense in the final act. After Lee is killed on his way to warn the CIA of Zorin’s plan, there is only Bond and Stacey left. So the third act is suspenseful because the audience already knows that the calvary will not be coming to the rescue. It’s left to Bond (and the alliance he can form with May Day) to save the day.

One of the things I love in this movie is the action, the firetruck chase, the bridge chase, and the scene at the end of the movie where they are in the shower with the girl lol, a great way for Roger to end his 007 career ;] The scenes are beautiful and it has a modern 1980s touch to it, it just seems different than the 70's ones he did. Not to mention Christopher Walkin as a bad guy is so amazing!Everytime I watch that movie I get this sadness because I know this was his last movie as bond... I love this great movie, Its currently tied with Octopussy as my favorite Bond film, I could talk about it all day and never get tired of it. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

After this one everyone thought Roger Moore should retire as 007. I was thinking that for an actor who plays Bond can only do 3 to 5 films but Roger Moore did 7. Roger Moore says that out of all the Bond films, he says this one is his least favorite and watching this makes me think that this was a great film for Roger Moore to end his Bond career but thinking of it and watching this made me think that stunts could have been cut down and there weren't so much deaths and then this film would be PG-13.

heh. Seems like everytime there is a AVTAK thread posted in any forum, someone brings up the same thing: Roger was too old, Roger says this is least favorite one, its always the same! Personally I dont care, it really was a really good movie.(Personally since I am probably the biggest Roger Moore fan ever I would have liked to see him in the Living Daylights, since EON originally wrote the script for him anyways then changed it for Dalton) BUT most 007 fan wouldnt like that since they always have a problem with his age, and I could agree for the sake of Bond movie wise. I just really liked him as Bond ;] 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

It's largely the villains and Bond maestro John Barry who save this one for me. :)

"It's largely the villains and Bond maestro John Barry who save this one for me. :)"Christopher Walken was wonderful. John Barrys work was pretty good here too. I like the climax on the Golden Gate as well. Still a contender for my worst Bond film tho, but I might give that "honor" to Die Another Day. Do you find this valuable? |

The more I watch the Roger Moore movies, the more I realize that he’s a very underrated Bond. I think he was a very wise selection by the producers since he was an actor who had worked extensively in the action/adventure genre. He wasn’t so self conscious and he was confident with the choices he made for his version of James Bond. It’s hard for me to believe that “Live and Let Die” was his first Bond movie because he just seems so comfortable in the role.

I grew up in the early 80’s when there was a lot of talk in the press about Connery vs. Moore. At the time I was a big Connery fan and I dismissed Moore. But now 20 years later, as I revisit all of the movies I see what great fun the Moore Bond movies are. I still like Connery a lot, and I think that he was the perfect actor to first play Bond. He was a trailblazer, and he gave 007 the humor that the character needed to survive in movies. Without him the entire history of 007 movies would be entirely different. But Roger Moore is also up there in defining the character of James Bond. He did not negate the Connery Bond, but he gave it his own unique twist. That’s what I like about Moore as an actor, is that he has respect for other performers who have played Bond. He had to walk a very fine line and I think that his previous experience as an actor helped him to negotiate the pitfalls a lesser actor would have fallen for. I suppose that’s the reason why AVTAK and DAF are my favorite Bond movies. Both of them are criticized for having a Bond that looks “too old” but I think that the performances by the leads are just excellent. Both of those movies give us a world weary, sardonic Bond who hasn’t lost his sense of humor. It is one reasons why I like Dalton in both of his movies and Brosnan in "Tomorrow Never Dies,” in all of those movies Bond is funny, yet sarcastic. It’s great! Do you find this valuable? |

I always feel a little sad when AVTAK ends because I know that it is Roger’s exit. His final joke on the top of the Golden Gate Bridge “There’s never a cab when you need one,” and the shower scene with Stacey where we get the final “oh James” it such a nice subtle tribute to the Roger Moore years as Bond.I watched it again this Saturday night and I agree that Walken is just amazing in that role. The fire truck chase is totally awesome. “My name is Bond, James Bond.” “Well I’m Dick Tracey and you’re still under arrest.” 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I grew up in the Brosnan era and I still watched Moore and thought he was amazing. My first movie was Octopussy, then goldeneye.Hehe I first saw The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill. Expllains my Fleming Bond geekiness lol... But it made an impression... Didn't take long for me to see the rest of the films and read the books too. Moore's escapism Bond was always fun tho in LALD, TMWTGG, TSWLM, FYEO and OP. Only ones I didn't like as much by him were MR and AVTAK. But Moore certainly made the part his own, like Connery did and he anchored some of the series most classic Bond moments. Do you find this valuable? |

Unlike Lazenby he really developed his own Bond that was different than Connery, he seemed very comfortable in the role in LALD & TMWTGG. Do you find this valuable? |

LALD is good also. It's a very funny movie. The chase at the airport is particularly funny, a great way to top the moonbuggy chase from DAF. And then there’s the awesome speedboat chase.
