And while The Man With The Golden Gun is far from being my favorite film, I love the idea of Bond going up against the worlds greatest assassin. So many of his missions start off as just investigating the murder of a colleague.For Your Eyes Only had a very straightforward mission (though he went about it in the most indirect way imaginable). From Russia With Love and The Living Daylights had very plausible (and very spy-worthy) missions. A couple of his missions are completely ridiculous (and I'm talking about the original assignments, not the plots that they eventually uncovered). In Moonraker, he's sent to investigate Drax because Drax Industries manufactured the stolen space shuttle? Wha-huh? Wouldn't Drax seem like the LEAST likely candidate for the shuttle theft? (Regardless of how it turned out.) If my Civic gets stolen, I'd rather the police didn't start their investigation at the Honda plant. Same sort of thing in A View To A Kill -- the Russians have a pipeline into Zorin Industries microchip production, so rather than investigating the corporation, or the scientists who have been developing the chips, or the plant itself, he's sent to investigate Zorin in person, but he's not looking for microchips.... he's looking into whether or not Zorin is doping his horses. Again, ??? And once more, in Tomorrow Never Dies, after a British ship is sunk (apparently by the Chinese), Bond is sent to investigate a media mogul who happened to get the scoop on the story? It seems that no matter what happens, MI6 policy is to quickly identify a likely billionaire suspect and send in Bond. Thunderball had a very straightforward mission, but it was a rather oblique lead he was following (the SISTER of one of crewmembers of the stolen plane?). I'm casting my vote for From Russia With Love. Believable and fairly realistic mission, perfect Cold War setting, made all the better by the fact they KNOW it's a trap but send in Bond anyway. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Green_Arrow made a lot of strong points for each of the Bond movies, but I think the best mission was in Tomorrow Never Dies. This could happen someday about the media mogul . It seems to be the most plausible in plots and Bond did a good job in it.

This is a hard one...I'll go for Dr. No. A classic "Go and figure out how your colleague was killed" with contacts from U.S...And of course Dr. No himself.

Goldeneye perfect time and setting for the new era of bond. Great twist with bonds friend and partner 006 alec trevalyn. Definetly one of his most testing assignments. Battling his friend in a race against time to take control of a dangerous sattelite weapon.
