"I still see it as overkill. It was fun to watch, I guess, but I think TSWLM is a better example of one of Bond's big-scale adventures. I found MR to be too similar to TSWLM, but TSWLM = ocean and MR = space. It came along at the right time though, I suppose, during the star wars phenomenon, etc. Then FYEO was a welcome return to the good old days of espionage and realism. :)"
My dear Gents, lets be fair to all the Actors who played 007. Each bringing something to the role.Though, I'm a Connery fan, Roger Bond did save the franchise after 'YOLT,OHMSS,DAF'. And the actors that were being considered @ the time, thank goodness for the 'SAINT'.

Roger Moore was a fantastic Bond actor, especially in the 80's. Then, he made a serious approach which I'm sure those who didn't like his over humor would enjoy.

Ranking his seven best to worst

1. For Your Eyes Only
2. A View To A Kill
3. The Spy Who Loved Me
4. Octopussy
5. Live And Let Die
6. Moonraker
7. The Man With The Golden Gun

For Your Eyes Only is my favorite Bond movie, besides Casino Royale. FYEO had action, a nice Bond girl, wonderful locations etc. It was also Roger Moore's first serious approach to the series.
And unlike many, I loved A View To A Kill. Great action, great locations and a nice Bond girl. It definitely was a nice end to Moore's career as 007, despite of his age.

TMWTGG was bad..

Well, I always have a different opinion from everyone else, and no one seems to like Tanya, I couldn't care less. Grace Jones is ugly. Do you find this valuable?

The series seems to have plateaued with Moonraker and For Yours Eyes Only.

I completely agree.
Moores movies are the most humorous in the James Bond franchise.

It's just unfortunate his first couple were funny for all the wrong reasons. From SPY on he was aces, though.

I wouldn't say it that way.
Sure TSWLM was great, it cannot be denied but I personally like also TMWTGG and LALD.
On my opinion they both contain proper amounts of humor AND action. Plus Clifton James as J.W Pepper!

Roger Moore the worst Bond? You've got to be kidding me, he's one of the best. My second fav, behind Timothy Dalton.

Roger Moore made the most worthy 007 films in The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only and A View To A Kill. However, I can admit, Live And Let Die and Octopussy are pretty piss poor (haven't seen TMWTGG).

Live And Let Die - Not so good. I don't know, I just couldn't like it. Strange plot, villains, and a low performance from Roger Moore himself in his debut.

The Spy Who Loved Me - Great Bond film, but a little overrated. Though, very interesting 70's Bond and Roger Moore's third performance. (He seems to have finally gotten used to the role) This one had Jaws, a nice plot with the vicious Stromberg.

Moonraker - Plain silly. The plot stinks, nothing develops within the plot until they get into space, and Bond doesn't belong in space... Just shouldn't have happened. The Bond girl is no doubt among the weakest, as well as the over-used humor. One of Roger Moore's worst attempts, and I didn't like his performance as it was somewhat different for the wrong reasons on this film.

For Your Eyes Only - My favorite of the Roger Moore films, and the best 007 in the series, in my opinion. Bond back to basics, what it is really all about, plus this film being more realistic than any of the others. Moore taking a serious approach to this film. Action scenes down the alps/car chase, the beautiful Melina Havelock, I could go on.. Everything is right about this film, except one thing... No 'M'.

Octopussy - I've underrated this one. Yes, it can drag on into boredom in some respects, and the film sticks with only two locations, with short time spent in Berlin. Bond in a clown suit? Who cares... I don't see the dislike. Octopussy herself made a fine Bond girl, with a fine plot and memorable villain.

A View To A Kill - Soley underrated. I personally love this film, despite Roger Moore's over old age of 57. The plot was very interesting, nice Bond girl, and I can say that this is a true remake of Goldfinger. Max Zorrin was indeed one of the best Bond villains, while A View To A Kill really does show us the end of Roger Moore in many parts of the film, especially around the end scenes. Come on, A View To A Kill presented us with some of the greatest locations of all time - San Francisco, the Eiffel Tower, The San Francisco bridge scene, etc.
Moore's performance was a little flawed, due to his age, I'll admit, but I loved the film for what it was.

Overall, Roger Moore's approach made some of the best 007 films. He's a great Bond, and otherwise, his portrayal of Bond was very convincing..

Best to worst Roger Moore films (in my opinion)

For Your Eyes Only - Moonraker - The Spy Who Loved Me - A View To A Kill - Live And Let Die - Octopussy

"I woulden't say AVTAK I liked it but He was far to old 57 years old LALD was one of his best"
I wish the romance between Bond and Mayday was a little more fleshed out, but otherwise I was very happy with VIEW.

"Octopussy.... It's... Ok.. 5/10 from me, I'll watch it but it really is flawed. Like I said, I haven;t seen The Man With The Golden Gun, but now I'm eager not to based on the crap it receives from fans. "
I say watch TMWTGG. I happen to think it is underrated and very enjoyable. Good story; the idea of Bond going up agains the worlds greatest assassin I always found interesting and well done. Christopher Lee is great and there are some good moments throughout. Not the best in my book but ultimately good fun like it should be.
