"Definitely a NO! That would destroy the whole Bond-universe! Craig is already "a step too far", but you have become accustomed to his look. But I cannot imagine a black Bond - James Bond is white!"Whole nother thread for this. Its been debated a lot on there. Do you find this valuable? |

"Definitely a NO! That would destroy the whole Bond-universe! Craig is already "a step too far", but you have become accustomed to his look. But I cannot imagine a black Bond - James Bond is white!"What a racist remark! There is plenty of room in the Bond-universe for a black Bond! Lest you forget, there are untapped regions of the globe that Bond has yet to have a great adventure. Parts where a black Bond would fit in nicely. South Africa, India, the Carribean, and Egypt immediately come to mind. As a matter of fact, I was wondering why Universal Exports would have sent two white 00 operatives ((007 and Carter Casino Royale) to Madagascar, where both obviously stuck out. And a Black Bond would have just as easily fit nicely in the Carribean casinos in Casino Royale. In fact, if Eon/Sony had wanted to redifine the franchise, they could have set C.R. in the Bahamas, instead of Montenegro, and had its first black Bond adventure! See my point? A black Bond could more plausibly pull off such an operation (and movie) in such a spot. I would like to see a truly British black actor get the nod, though. Someone like British actor Lennie James or the actor who capably played M's Chief of Operations during the Brosnan run -- an actor, by the way, whom Brosnan personally endorsed when Broccoli et al launched a search for his replacement! What I "couldn't imagine" as far as a black playing Bond is if a an American black actor played him. This would dampen the spirit of the franchise, with regard to the lead being played by either British actors or actors from the British Empire (Australia, et al.). Just like no one considers Barry Nelson's "Jimmy Bond" as Bond canon, I couldn't see anyone accepting Jamie Foxx as Bond. That isn't to say that no one could accept a black Brit donning the tux. So broaden your mind and worldview. There are times when only a black Bond would do. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Spot on my Anonymous kin!!! If we can easily accept an invisible auto and henchmen with metal teeth as part of the posh, pink skinned bond-universe, why could we not also accept what you Yanks would call a brotha as Bond! And for you so called Bond purists, don't forget that Fleming probably couldn't have fathomed a female M either!!!

They were different people who each obtained the rank of M. Bond however, is the same character and same person. Its not different people assuming the rank of James Bond. Do you find this valuable? |

"Bond has been to the Caribbean, Egypt and India. And white people wouldnt stand out in the bahamas or india seeing as how the british used to rule those areas and the people were quite used to whites."One theory of Bond is that the name "James Bond" is just a code name for the highest MI6 agent. This makes room for a Bond of any race. Considering the homogenization of the races, it wont be a stretch to see a darker skinned Bond, hell, even a Bond with a deeper tan because he, for example, might doing a film in the Caribbean. Consider President Obama -- white mom, black dad, he is lighter than an average Nigerian but darker than an average Egyptian. Obama actually has the confidence, suave and sophistication of Bond, though he might lack the adventurousness, physical prowess and combat skills. Someone like Obama might easily come along that we'd all love. Anyone besides me remember thinking we'd never have a black President in my lifetime? A black Bond could happen and could be great. But that theory is blown to bits by one BIG fact. James Bond still has his name even when he leaves MI6. There are at least 3 occassions of this: In License to Killand Die Another Day, he's virtually booted out and disavowed, and in Casino Royale, he resigns. Yet in all three of these cases, he still has the same name. Hence, it is the same Bond. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
