"yes he was. he bought a menace 2 the character, he was ahead of time with what the Producers r doing w/ Bond 2day. and this was b 4 'Bourne'. mebbe if all Bond fans took a 2nd look @ 'LTK', they will appreciate it more 2day, n certainly better than 'QOS'?"Certainly better than QoS, story and action scenes are easier to keep up with and Robert Davi and Benicio Del Toro were cool villains. luv the fuel truck stunts too. I know this has been said before (by me and others), but after Moore's comedic flourishes, Dalton brought back the much needed edge and grittiness to the part, and I appreciate that. Well done Timothy for keeping it alive. :) Do you find this valuable? |

Dalton's not the best but his only good movie was The Living Daylights. Licence to Kill was terrible because it was too violent the scenes they should have cut was killing killifer krest's head exploding and Felix getting eaten up by a shark Do you find this valuable? |

Its perfect for today's world and certainly was ahead of its time. Just bad timing for 'LTK'. And not Dalton's performance. Lots of things were out of his control. Do you find this valuable? |

Dalton was quite good -- his main problem was that they weren't writing to his strengths. In both TLD and LTK we got a taste of what Dalton could deliver (as a dark, angry Bond, he was unequaled)... but when it came to delivering the one-liners and wooing the ladies, it felt forced and awkward. It's notable that Dalton seemed to connect better onscreen with the villains than with the leading ladies. The series was trying to continue in the footsteps of Roger Moore, and Dalton was much stronger as the cold and dangerous Bond (the assassin) than the charming and smooth Bond (the dashing spy). They tried to go both ways with Dalton, with predictably mixed results. Do you find this valuable? |

Too bad Bond Producers wasted the oppoertunity of such a fine actor as Mr.Dalton is.They should have wrote the story to his 'STRENGTH', I think 007 Producers would've succeeded. It has the best villain in Robert Davi, beautiful Bond girls Soto and Lowell, a great Gladys Knight theme song, and the greatest Bond ever in Dalton. Do you find this valuable? |

I greatly respect Tim Dalton as an actor, he turned down the role several times for commendable reasons, and his true love and strength is really in theatre; his efforts as Bond were very admirable and brought raw vengeance into the character after years of smarminess from Moore ("Forgive me darling, your turn will come, I promise!" etc) and while I love most of Moore's smoothy comedic one-liners, it was wise to lose this trait after he retired from the role. Dalton used the novels as inspiration for his interpretation of 007, and never tried to imitate any previous movie incarnations, a brave and respectable method; he wasn't trying to please producers or the entire moviegoing public, merely to honour the character's original incarnation as much as he was allowed. There were a lot of action flicks in the late 80s too, so the Bond franchise was up against heavy competition. I can still watch TLD and LTK again and enjoy them; they have dated a little, but the rawness and realism of Bond and his adversaries is still good watchable cinema, and Dalton deserves praise for putting such performance into a role that he was never truly comfortable with. He's a great actor, just not a good Bond in my opinion. I think the reason, as you said, is that it wasn't really his fault, but they didn't write to his strengths. This would explain why I like him as an actor, but not his role as Bond. Do you find this valuable? |

I don't mind Dalton now that I think about it but in some ways he sort of was a bit too grim. I don't expect him to be Connery or Moore and I know many have said he personifies who Bond was, but I guess Dalton just never had enough time to mesh with the role...though I really do prefer him in LTK mostly due to him finally finding more of his style by then.

It sure is hard to be succesor of Moore but Dalton did what he could and gets the credits for that from me.Dalton wasn't bad actor. In fact he's the 3rd best Bond after Moore and Connery on my opinion. Do you find this valuable? |

"It sure is hard to be succesor of Moore but Dalton did what he could and gets the credits for that from me.As much as I enjoy Roger 007, after 7 of his comedic-approach films, Timothy Dalton made a refreshing change and brought that grittiness and realism back to the part, which I appreciate. TLD and LTK were the first Bond films I saw and thought they were great - they encouraged me to watch the rest of the movies. Good move by Dalton for playing a completely different type of Bond than Roger, as Roger did after Sean, as Pierce did after Dalton and as Craig is now doin after Pierce. If they all did it the same it wouldn't be as interesting. But they were all good and Timothy was a pretty good Bond in my mind - my 3rd favorite, only behind Connery and Craig. :) Do you find this valuable? |
