"we just need to plan it if we're going to do it and have people commit to coming. we cant have it and have 20people show up! i believe that christi md 1 would be able to help w/ the planning. alex, any thoughts?"more than likely, it'll only be 20 people (if that). planning a full-on james bond "convention" is a full time job and requires some kind of capital to get started. conventions have presentations, guest speakers, memorabelia, and so on. someone would have to coordinate all of that and have the financial backing to be able to pay for everything up front before the convention fees were collected from participants. might be setting the ol' hopes too high. i think that a "LTK Meetup" would be something more feasible. we'd all know each other from the wiki, so there wouldn't be any expectations for anything fantastic. it'll be small, so there won't be much that needs to be done up front. we'd be meeting to talk about james bond and get to know the people that contribute to the wiki. someone could do some research on a particular james bond location, and we could plan a weekend seeing places where bond films were shot, visiting places bond went, or doing things that bond did. i know that you can rent out movie theatres in austin for private showings, so we could do something like that. we already have a couple suggestions for places in the US: miami, harlem, las vegas, and louisville (fort knox). none of those places are very expensive to travel to and aside from louisville (of which i know next to nothing), they're fun towns with lots of things to do. if we don't do it at one of these places, then someone could "host" the meetup in their town... not quite as cool, but serving the same purpose of letting bond fans get together to talk about bond (and the other things they probably have in common) Do you find this valuable? |

Here are all the in state locations we could plan to do a meet up at: Miami, Fort Knox, Las Vegas, NYC, New Orleans, San Francisco, or Key West (of course most of these have already been listed). Any of these would be great places and they can all be very inexpensive to travel to and visit with the right planning. I think we should set up some sort of poll and see what everyone thinks, maybe get a top three and then narrow things down from there.

It might be good to contact Creation (they put on conventions like Star Trek). They might be able to arrange one but it would probably take a year. The best places for a Convention are Las Vegas or Florida because of the convention facilities and the weather.
