"I know no one can replace Desmond, and John Cleese took over for one film. Perhaps he will return, if not who do you think would make a good Q.John Cleese although 69 is definitely still interested in playing Q, although he may be getting too up in years, however, Dame Densch is no spring chicken either..so I would like to see him back. I also agree, no one can replace Desmond Llewellyn. He was fabulous. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Llewellyn will always be Q, but someone like Billy Connolly could be an effective successor at Q Branch. Do you find this valuable? |

Michael Caine, David Ogden Stiers (Major Winchester),. It'd really be cool if they brought Connery in as M or Q.

I had also thought of Simon Pegg, but I like the suggestion of Billy Connolly even better.Stephen Fry, maybe? 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

A lot people are bashing Cleese. He would do the part really well. He only played Q in one film, whereas Desmond played him in 17 (i think?). Cleese didnt have enough time to establish himself as Desmond did. If Desmond only did From Russia with Love there is no way everybody would love him like we do. It because he continuely played it and he grew on us. Give Cleese a chance...haha sounds like Give Peace a Chance..

Always said, and always will -- Hugh Laurie. The guys f-ing British for god sake. And dont tell me the humor isnt there. Just watch House on USA channel 105 on Dish and 242 on Direct TV.By the way, never was a damn Cleese fan. More of a Desmond Llewelyn. The original......... 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Fine actor; let's not forget, he was ALMOST Perry White, too. :) Do you find this valuable? |

"How abot professor Stephen Hawkins."A younger Q = Johnny Depp. Hugh Laurie would be a good Q. Brian May from Queen woulkd be great (ever seen him interviewed about astronomy?). Chris eccleston (dr who) Patrick Stewart or sir Ian McKellan. Actually my single answer would be Ian McKellan. Do you find this valuable? |

"Chris eccleston (dr who) Patrick Stewart or sir Ian McKellan. Actually my single answer would be Ian McKellan."Those are all fine actors but they're already ingrained in the popular imagination as other iconic characters. Connolly is less well-known -- at least in North America -- and could create a signature character as Llewellyn's successor. Do you find this valuable? |

When Laurie was "struggling" to find work (like he ever needed to struggle) he would have been a good choice, but now he's too huge a star to play "Q." Same with Stewart and McKellan. Find someone who won't cost a cool million to get.A good character actor who's quirky, flinty, and edgy. And a bit...what's a nice word for it?..."seasoned." Someone who could conceivably dress Craig down and not expect to have his wind-pipe crushed. You know what would be a great opening line for "Q" to Bond? "You're not how I pictured you at ALL!" Its not about being a huge star and costing a fortune. I would say many many actors would take a lesser fee for playing Q. Hugh Laurie would be great and affordable. What if he were a Bond fan? Do you think he would miss a chance to be in a Bond movie? I doubt it. Look at Tom Cruise in Tropical Thunder. A small role for a small fee...but he still wanted to do it because he liked the role. I even think Ian McKellan would do it just to be able to say Q was one of his roles and what he could do with the character. Ian would be the "Now look here 00seven" and the "DONT touch untill i say so" type of Q. A tinkerer who takes his work very seriously but with a grandfather type of demeanor.
