My hopes for Bond 23
Nov 16 2008, 3:11 PM EST | Post edited: Nov 16 2008, 3:11 PM EST
Having just seen QOS, one thing that I hope they do (or more accurately, DON'T DO) in the next one:

Enough of the rogue agent thing. It's effective once in a while (OHMSS, LTK), but now they've done THREE in a row where Bond going rogue has been a major part of the story. Having *really* established a relationship between Bond and M now in QOS, it's time that Bond go on an assignment where MI6 (and the CIA) have his back. Bond having to dodge his own people as well as the villains? Let's give that device a rest for one or two films, shall we?

Regardless of the plot line I hope we get a return to some of the more traditional Bond elements. This isn't to say I want a 180 from where things are going, but a glimpse of Moneypenny or a new (dare I say practical?) gadget would be nice. We don't need every Bond tradition rolled back in, but a few (well placed) would put me at ease.... 39  out of 48 found this valuable. Do you?

Some good thoughts here. I agree with Green-Arrow that the rogue thing is done. With a solid relationship between M and Bond it's time to get back to basics. A great single-serving episode would be fantastic. And, while I am curious about more on Quantum I wonder if we skip that story line for now. Let's get Craig onto something fresh perhaps pulling him into dispatch Quantum in Bond 24 (which is also the last film under his current contract). 14  out of 22 found this valuable. Do you?

I agree with alexberg, I hope they go back to tradition, I'd like to see gadgets from Q, Moneypenny, Bond James Bond and some Vodka Martini's (shaken not stirred off course) but I do like the 'new direction' and I think Craig's great, as for Quantum, I think it could come back in the future like SPECTRE used to... 16  out of 22 found this valuable. Well since it has already been announced that the next Bond movie will not be a follow up of CR and QoS I dont expect Vesper to mentioned, strongly, again. I am hoping for Monneypenny to be in it (which it is rumored that she will be) I am also hoping for Q branch. If he isnt shown in the movie then I hope near the end M says to Bond something like this "Bond, we want to introduce you to a branch of MI6 that you are not familiar. Go get yourself checked out at Q branch." then credits. I think that would be a great touch! 24  out of 32 found this valuable. Do you?

Nice. Or maybe, given the intensity of the car chase at the beginning of QOS, Bond should say to M, "So who do I see about getting my car bullet-proofed?!"

That's interesting, because that's exactly how it played out in the first 4 Bond movies -- Dr. No hinted at SPECTRE, in FRWL we actually see SPECTRE, then in Goldfinger SPECTRE completely disappears and we get a "single-serving" villain. Then in Thunderball, SPECTRE is back.

One nice thing about QUANTUM is they don't seem to be quite the cohesive, focused fraternity that SPECTRE was -- you get the sense that each member has his/her own stuff going on, and most of them don't even know what their "colleagues" look like. This is a good device that can allow Bond to "trim the branches" of QUANTUM rather than having to take on the whole organization all at once.

Eventually, of course, there will have to be a big, Blofeld-style, "allow-me-to-introduce-myself" reveal of the real mastermind behind the organization. I doubt it's anyone we've seen so far.

Bond has never been to Australia. Which is strange, given that he's been to every other corner of the world... many of them twice. Also never been to Hawaii, the Philippines, or anywhere else in the South Pacific, as far as I can remember.

Time to remedy that? There are some great locations there.

If anything ladies and gents, lets at least bring back Q. Maybe not Moneypennny, but I would like to see John Cleese make a cameo appearance.

I don't know way every is so mad about Craig's vision of Bond - the Darker Bond is great to me after the 3 OK films of comedy in Brosnan (Goldeneye was just plain genius). I personally love the action of Craig, and my hopes is Bond 23 will be a continuation of QoS. The Quantum Organization is probably my favorite organization after Spectre. That too, of course is an assumption as Smersh is hardly even seen in the Bond Films.

Personally speaking, lets keep Craig's bond. Who doesn't love the action, quips, and sexyness that Craig brings to the table. In my point-of-view, Craig and Connery are neck in neck in the Best Bond race.

I really enjoyes QOS, the action is great and I love Craig's protrayl of a grittier, nastier Bond, more in tune with the books. But I have to say I miss the back and forth between Q and Bond. Also I hope they bring the gadgets back. I do like the inroduction of a new world criminal organization like SPECTRE but what I really hope for in the next movie is a larger than life villian. I miss the Hugo Drax and Goldfingers of the franchise as well as the memorable henchman like Jaws or even Onatopp. 12  out of 18 found this valuable. Do you?

I think thats how the writers/producers are going to plan it out. I wonder (HOPE) that they bring back Miss. MP.

"This is my assumption - Bond 23 will be a follow up on QoS. We will finally find out the climax of the Quantum Orginzation. The trilogy will finally be complete.

What gives me this guess is the two bullets in Greene's head. The story shall continue!"
I disagree.....I think Quantum will be a "factor", however there are signs of Mr. white becoming a similarly recurring vilanous character as Blofeld was. I think now that QoS has resolved and closed the holes in Casino Royale, we will see a new storyline, where Quantum will be a factor or organisation to which the villian belongs but not the villian itself. We should recall that SPECTRE was similar in that the organisation as whole was used repeatedly (Dr. No, FRWL, Thunderball) but was not the prime villian, members of the organisation provided mastermined plots which the organisation itself backed financially and logistically.

1. Q
2. Moneypenny
3. A new M.
4. Stronger villains than what we saw in 23.
5. A bit more humour, but nothing major.
6. Better direction than what I witnessed in Bond 23 (less choppy movement please).
7. The return of Gettler....I'm kidding. Maybe his twin brother? I'm joking, seriously!

i think that the quantum organization will be like the SPECTRE organization in the past....

did anyone notice in the video game after greene is dead we see mr.white and Mr. Haines (the man from the opera) talking together and bond says hes going in to check it out. maybe this will be a hint as to plot of the next bond..but i hope not...

now my hopes for 23..
GO BACK TO THE TRADITION
1.barrel roll sequence,
2. "the names bond, james bond....."martini shaken not stirred" and all the cleaver wits the writters came up with in the past
3. bond getting all the women again! no more of this falling in love crap. bond doesnt do that in my opinion..
4. important/memorable henchmen...ex..jaws, tee hee, the list goes on....in QOS i think the henchmans name was elvis...im pretty sure he didnt say a single word....

so thats pretty much all i want in bond 23...
let me know what you guys think...

CR and QOS are both before the other bond films in his story line, eg he was named 00 status after begining of CR
So, in the QOS timeline Spectre is alive!!!
Quantum should be an organisation that people belong to but sort of do their own thing, however they need a leader and Green DID NOT cut it.
SPECTRE (as a different but similar actor) should be back as that leader to show the start of SPECTRE saga

sorry made a mistake blofeld should be the leader (not SPECTRE) but at the end of Bond 23 he anounces "Quantum is no more, you have destroyed it Bond, But it is not over. Your worst nightmere is just about to start and its name is SPECTRE, Ha Ha Ha HA Ha HA!!!" 6  out of 20 found this valuable. Do you?

My sentiment exactly...a few classic bond-isms is just what the next movie needs...and I personally would love to see John Cleese reprise the role of Q.
