"hughs too young to be q"
Freddie Jones would make a fine and grumpy head of section, but he's in his eighties now, which probably precludes him from consideration.

"Regardless of the plot line I hope we get a return to some of the more traditional Bond elements. This isn't to say I want a 180 from where things are going, but a glimpse of Moneypenny or a new (dare I say practical?) gadget would be nice. We don't need every Bond tradition rolled back in, but a few (well placed) would put me at ease...."
yeah that would be cool; daniel craig has said in interviews that he hopes for Q and Moneypenny to appear. sounds good as seeing bond meet Q for the first time would most likely provide a bit of comic relief (but not too much) after CR and QoS. But yea i reckon some classic bondian traditions thrown into the mix would be good without giving up too much of the feeling of Craigs first 2 movies. hopefully it could be the next great film that helps to define the series in a way like goldfinger or the spy who loved me. title that sticks out in my mind; The Property of a Lady.

"What Bond really does need now is:
-moneypenny
-Q
-A blowfeld type villain
-The villain has his/her own secret base(preferably hiden)
-evil henchman (that speaks)
-the villain has a truly evil plan that bond needs to stop like in- YOLT, MOONRAKER,TSWLM,THUNDERBALL,DAF,TND,GOLDENEYE,DAD
-really hot bond girl (that in the end he sleeps with)
-gadgets
-car that has gadgets built in
-cool car chase
-gun barrel opening
-the villain dies in the end
-bond kills the villains
-THE MAIN VILLAIN DOSNT GET SHOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
yea some pretty good ideas there. its time for craig to do his great bond movie (dont get me wrong - i love CR and QoS but nits time for another Goldfinger/thunderball type of bond film that is more of an epic esponiage thriller than a Bourne Identity style film. lotsa glamorous locations and babes and yea with a cool chase with a gadget filled car. bring on the next truly awesome bond film that craig will be remembered for!!

"Bond has never been to Australia. Which is strange, given that he's been to every other corner of the world... many of them twice. Also never been to Hawaii, the Philippines, or anywhere else in the South Pacific, as far as I can remember.

Time to remedy that? There are some great locations there."
yea. how about new zealand?

Somehow I think CASINO ROYALE already fulfilled that criteria.

I hope to god that if we see gadgets they are something close to realistic (The briefcase FRWL had knives hidden in the hinges), that the car is an Aston Martin, again with realistic gadgets (no missiles, no oil slick, no car that turns into a submarine), and a realistic villain or villains. While I liked the old bonds very much I prefer the new bonds as they are closer to what Fleming wanted. He died right after Dr. No came out and I think that he spins in his grave everytime Bond had a watch with a laser or the polaroid camera with the lazer that also took x-ray photos.
Personally, as Putin seems to want to bring back the old Soviet Russia I think that they can take the short story '007 in New York' and turn that into a full movie they way the did with The Living Daylights.

You seem to be confusing Bond with a realistic spy. and secondly Fleming died shortly before Goldfinger was released.

Interesting. Well, since James Bond might be a code name to cover his real identity (as hinted in QofS). Perhaps the "other" James Bond thought to have been dead comes back and this could be Sean Connery?

Sort of like the idea of Sean Bean as 006 or 008 from GoldenEye?

No, I am not confusing Bond with a realistic spy. I want Bond to be the realistic spy that Fleming wanted him to be. What I am hoping for is that Bond does not return to the cartoon he ultimately became with Roger Moore in the role. I am really not certain why everyone insist that we need to have a ton of absurd gadgets and Bond dropping snarky lines like he is Groucho Marx. Read Moonraker and then tell me that if they redid that with Daniel Craig and followed the book that it would not be a great movie. I think the problem here is that a lot of the people who are looking for gadgets, cars with gadget, girls with gadgets, gadgets with gadgets, etc. have never read the books and do not go back and watch the Connery Bonds. If Fleming has lived (sorry for misplacing his death but I had read that he died prior to From Russia with Love being made) he would have really been pissed with what Bond became when Roger Moore portrayed him. Fleming died during production of goldfinger in 1964. From Russia with Love was his last film he saw. Lastly Fleming orginally wanted Moore casted as 007 when the series was first started, not Connery.

I actually do agree with you on the realistic aspect. I was just messin with you : ). Personally I would like to see the return of gadgets and witty remarks but nothing to the extent of Moore as you said. He took it too far and by his later years it was nothing but a joke, which is why I like him in LALD, TMWTGG, and TSWLM. Its funny, because earlier I had posted a thread saying the book Moonraker should be remade with Craig. It is so different from the movie that they could just change the title and villain name and get away with it. Craig would do amazingly in it.

Fleming did want Moore, but what he saw to make his judgements varies greatly I think from what Moore's Bond became. Fleming based his judgements on The Saint, he probably wouldnt have wanted Bond to become what Moore was. The thing is though, I'm quite confident Moore could have done better had he stuck to his performances in his first three films for the rest of them.

I agree with most of what you say, I think that the "new" Bond is great!! I also love the action. But what I do not agree with is that you think and mabye some other people that Craig and Connery are neck in neck. I dont think after only two movies that you can make that choice, when Connery played in more than half of the James Bond movies. Do you find this valuable?

Half? Connery was in 6 of the 22 Bond films. Thats about a fourth.

Having read all of the books, I agree they should stick to the more serious approach, but to be anything like fleming's original creation they need to drop Craig and his bull**** acting. He's a rubbish Bond and I found Quantum of Solace to be the only Bond film to top the rubbish list over the Man with the Golden Gun. Casino Royale bored me to tears. How many times can Fleming write Bond not wanting to kill in cold blood before Craig or the writers get the idea? And yes, Craig as well, as the 'actor' could show the remorse that Bond expresses but doesn't. Craig is the only Bond who I can't accept.

First two performances I could buy, but by The Spy Who Loved Me, things were already very silly and Moore had already switched to humorous Bond mode (and was showing the first signs of porking up a bit).
