"Best: LALD, CR, DAF, AVTAK, TB

Worst: LTK, TND, OHMSS (Time in the World), TLD, MR"
What was wrong with OHMSS (We have all the time in the world) and MR?

"the last two posts are the same anonymous. split personality? "
The fact that they do this proves they just want to wreak havoc. Especially when they disagree on something. They'll post five Anonymous posts agreeing with themselves. Talking to themselves....silly Anons.

I agree "We have all the Time in the World" was a perfect song to showcase Bond's true love affair. And the musical recurrence of the song during Tracie's death scene was perfect.

While I find MR less than exciting, it was classic Shirley Bassey. You can't go wrong there!

All three of Basseys songs seemed to grow on me bit by bit. Goldfinger is just the obvious Bond song, but DAF started to grow the second time I saw the movie (and when I saw it on a Morcambie and Wise special when I was in Britain from '71). Even "Moonraker" has started to grow and become more defining...it's like Shirley Bassey just didn't do one wrong song!

Another note: after seeing GoldenEye, I've instantly fallen for that song. Somehow Tina Turner just did it like a neo-Bassey and, as overrated as U2 can be sometimes, Bono & Edge did a good job with the song.

I can't remember that one. I'll have to check that one out again.

As far as Shirley Bassey goes; ironically, my favorite song that she sang was the theme to Monty Python's "The Life of Brian".

Forgot Bassey did "Life of Brian"...I only saw it once and I guess I'm just too obsessed with "Holy Grail".

As for "GoldenEye", I liked it so much I ended up getting the full version instead of getting the "The Best of Bond...James Bond" version. It's not too often that I fall for a song so easily with Bond.

I feel that U2 is only overrated nowadays. Their 80s early 90s material was great, then for the rest of the 90s they slipped and made horrible stuff, then in 2000 their album was great, and then in 2004 their album was bad. Way back when, they deserved the fame, because they were actually really good. Their more recent material though...

My feelings for U2 go all over the place. I don't mind some of their earlier stuff but even by the Joshua Tree they seemed to have an identity crisis between really classy stuff (Where the Streets Have No Name) and overplayed, oversentimentalized crap (I Still Haven't Found What I"m Looking For, One...god I hate those songs) I like their stuff off "All You Can't Leave Behind" though (as overplayed as it gets) and I love their theme they wrote for GoldenEye...heck, I even like their theme for "Batman Forever"!

I may be in the minority here but I look at U2 the same way I look at Human League or the Thompson Twins. Just another band from the early 80s. Not saying they were bad. I like a couple of their songs (Batman Forever and Gloria) but could never understand all the hype. Do you find this valuable?

if you liked that, search for their song "lisztomania". its all from their newest (and best) work, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. they offer a very new age, synthed up sound that reminds me b a bit of a clash of U2 and coldplay.

Joaquin Phoenix would bring a new hip sensibility to the Bond Songbook.
