Who Do You think Is The Best behind The Lens?

There were a total of 10 directors that helped the man framed as OO7 to make it to the big screen. Of those 10, each of has someone we personally favor. Which director do you think is the best at his job on the Bond Films?

Mine is definatly Martin Campbell. His knack on the two Bond films that he did (Goldeneye and Casino Royale). If you look at both films, not only did he introduce two of the best bonds, but his films have many distinct features.

Mainly, they are some of the most action pack films, and the woman he cast, well................

Second comes Terence Young. Dr. No, FRWL, Thunderball, need I say more?

Third - Guy Hamilton
Fourth - Peter Hunt
Fifth - Lewis Gilbert
Sixth - John Glen
Seventh - Roger Spottiswood
Eighth - Lee Tamahhori
Ninth - Michael Apted

Marc Forster - ? or ??

Who do you prefer?

I think I prefer Lewis Gilbert. While only three films, the quilty of each is very good. It is really not about the film as a whole, but about some parts that make or brake a director.

One of which is those 'key' scenes. Such as in Moonraker, which Lewis directed. Benard Lee's last scene with 007 was a classic one, one that I personally will never forget.

In The Spy Who Loved Me, which is Roger Moores best film, the action aboard the Atlantis was full of action, and the quality of any scene with Lewis Gilbert behind the lens was a great one.

To make this quick......

2- Guy Hamilton
3- Peter Hunt
4- Martin Campbell
5 - Terrence Young
6- John Glen
7- Roger Spottiswood
8- Michael Apted
9- Lee Tamahori

1. Guy Hamilton- He had a great run as a director. He kick Bondmania into high (mostly Sean) with goldfinger. He gave Connery one last hurah as Bond, he launched Roger's career and casted Christopher Lee as a superp villian (Fleming's cousin).
2. Terrence Young- The 1st director that launch the greatest film series, Every director trys to go by his methods.
3. Lewis Gilbert- I think he had direct outside box touch. Countiued Roger's career after Guy. He gave us Jaws!
4. Roger Spottiswood-Back to the basic touch on Bond. Like to see him return for another Bond (could happen)
5. John Glen- Finished Moore's career and lauch the dark side of Bond with Dalton. Fast paced action.
6. Martin Campbell-Launch Bond's 5 & 6's careers. Another down to earth, thinking outside a big box.
7. Peter Hunt-....Should have stayed as the editor.
8. Michael Apted/Lee Tamahori-Killed Brosnan's run as Bond. Didn't care how the film turned out deal.

You know this is hard. All the directors gave od something different with Bond. Just like the actor who portrayes Bond, the Director must take Flemings novel into account and add what he believes Flemings getting at

They are all A-Ok in my book. YOu cant really look at the film in hole. You must lookk at the script, the scenes, the quotes, the mood, etc..........

It is a tough call, beacuse all the films are great! (DAD is an exception. As Bond fans we did not need that as a 20th anniversy as a collection)

yes, they are all OK, but can we really say that it does, in a way, come down to the boxx offfice as well.. It is the responce of Bond fans of that particular film that can be put on account as well.

This is utterly difficult. They have all had their great moments and beautifully written scenes and pilots.

If pressured, i believe I ought to go with Terence Young. The films he has directed - Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger - I think they can speak for themselves.

Dr. No - Can I count the classic moments in such a film!? The scenes were beautiful. The casting was done great. All the actors were well dressed.

From Russia With Love - Red Grant, Blofeld, Rosa Klebb, Krostson - They all speak for themselves. From the gypies scene to the fight aboard the Orient Express, the action was always there.

Goldfinger - Argueable the best Bond film (though Im not a personal fan)
