Round Two Now Up and Running!
Jul 20 2008, 4:01 PM EDT Round two of the James Bond Tournament is now up and Running! Did your film make it to the 'Big Dance'? Find out here: http://www.jamesbondwiki.com/page/James+Bond+Tournament Connery is in fine shape. All of his 'official' films are still going! Moore has 3 strong films out. Georgie looks fine as he recieves Runner-Up in Group A and moves on! Dalton's ''The Living Daylights'' moves on! but sadly not License To Kill (surpise!) Pierce Brosnan is smiling as only Die Another Day was eliminated! Please vote for your fav's in Round two! So what do all you fans think? Any 'upsets'? or suprises? Mine has- to- be License To Kill being eliminated. Cedric 5 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jul 20 2008, 4:07 PM EDT Sad to see DAD go, though I've found I'm in spare company when I speak up for that film. TLD cruised through Round 1 only because it was matched up against Moonraker. Dr. No will set things right in Round 2. Would have liked to have seen LTK survive another round, but even if it had, it would have had to face Goldfinger in Round 2, which is a death sentence. Do you find this valuable? |

Jul 21 2008, 12:17 PM EDT i don't think there were any upsets in the first round. the non-eon films fell out (this shouldn't be a surprise). moonraker, octopussy, and avtak were basically moore's final films, which many here on the wiki believe to be the culmination of bond going in the wrong direction (too many one liners, reliance on too many gadgets). i bet the only reason fyeo made it through is because it was matched up against avtak. licensed to kill was dalton's last (and imho, the most violent and angry of the films), again moving away from the more controlled, sauve bond established by connery. DAD was brosnan's last, and again, suffered from the "over the top" portrayal of bond as in moore's avtak. so with connery's films being the exception, the wiki community seems to disprefer the final films in each actor's tenure as bond. and following alex's comment, i'll bet we see daf drop out early in the next round for the same reason. according to the tournament, it seems like the producers wait just a bit too long to hire new bond actors. Do you find this valuable? |

Come on folks, you know you love the extra-wry humor, the weird henchmen, the effete Blofeld (in drag, no less), and the moonbuggy! Kidd and Wint! Bambi and Thumper! Shady Tree and the "I gotta brudda" mobsters! You love it, you *know* you love it, so let's get in there and win one for Plenty O'Toole. GoldenEye? Come on, now. Bond with big hair, spouting one liners about safe sex and frequent flyer miles? Boys with toys? Slugheads? No no no. Give me lines like "provided the collars and cuffs match" and "I'm afraid you've caught me with more than my hands up" and "we're showing a bit more cheek than usual" any day. Do the right thing. Do it for Jimmy Dean. The guilty pleasures are the best pleasures of all. ;-} Do you find this valuable? |

But if we are truely to find out which BOnd Fim is the best, the best one will survive matchups against other top contentors. Matchups between dynasty's is almost inevitable.
