20. RE: Faith In Anything Besides Himself?

"When we read a novel or watch a movie, we are actually making an agreement with the author or director to suspend our beleif and be carried into realms of fantasy.Bringing religion into a cult hit is a fool's job"OK, a good point. We enter into such an agreement and hope that the author or director possesses the skills or style to carry off his or her half of the bargain. But my question here is whether or not we can safely qualify the Bond films as "cult" hits. To me, a cult hit specifies an extremely specific and unique artistic instant. An individual book, say, or a single film. Can a franchise . . . albeit a successful one . . . qualify for cult status? Do you find this valuable? |

To me, the term "cult film" (or book, or song, etc.) does not imply a religious or spiritual connection. In this context the term is used to describe a film (book, etc.) that is passionately adored and studied over by a noticeable segment of the population. Do you find this valuable? |
