My promotion-demotion scheme works, in order of heaviest boost/whallopin' to least significant boost/whallopin'... 1. Cultural impact. What do people think about the James Bond franchise in the wake of the film's first few weeks after opening? If there's a general consensus that "you know, this is the same story over and over again...they really should shelve it..." then you have to conclude Bond has been injured in the field, and the film should suffer. If there's a renewed interest, then the movie obviously is much better. 2. Acting. Sorry, Barbara Bach. It's important. 3. Closing-credits girl takes off some goddamned clothes. 4. Gadgets. They should be like Tom Clancy weapons. They should make you go "hey, do they really have that??" If it's as realistic as something Wiley Coyote would order from ACME, the film should topple. 5. Chase scenes. Climax before the climax. Houdini escapes. Bond switches places with a dead body. These are all good. 6. Double-taking dogs, cats, pigeons...redneck sheriffs, whistle sound effects...Beach Boys music. Of course they cost the film some points. For God's SAKE, Roger. 6 out of 9 found this valuable.
