A few surprises

I'll be the first to admit to being more of a film fan than a Fleming devotee, but I was surprised to find how many parallels there were between the man and the character. Fleming really did seem to be writing the idealized version of himself. Does this cast Bond as more Fantasy than character? 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

To answer your question Dmeyers, of course Bond is pure fantasy. However the complexity and fullness of the character is undeniable. Fleming was a master of the pen and it shows in his development of Bond into a living breathing cultural phenomenon.

The question I pose to you is "What author doesn't reflect themselves in their characters?" Any good author realizes that they can only write well about what they know. Fleming loved good tobacco, fast cars, strong drink, and beautiful women therefore these are some of the things Bond loved.

And honestly, who wouldn't want to be have Bond's life? I know I would.
