I think we all could say CR is the new and best Bond film of all-time. CR is the new GF. 1  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

...or "Goldfinger" is the old "Casino Royale"... (No, wait, the "OLD" "Casino Royale" are the other two--I'm SO confused!!)

Ya know, I don't know if it's THE best...my criteria is that first, it has to "top" Fleming in quality--in other words, just be a better story--more clever--eliminate any of Fleming's weaknesses and accentuate the strengths, and that doesn't mean more chases and stunts and gadgets, but basic story-telling. Like eliminating Goldfinger's plot to STEAL the gold in Ft. Knox, and just have him make it useless instead. Or throwing Vesper in Bond's path instead of a sheet of nails--those are both damned good ideas and better than Fleming's original ones.

I don't know if its BETTER than "Goldfinger," "Dr. No," "From Russia With Love," et al. but it's right up there in the senior class with them. I certainly thought it was the best SINCE "Goldfinger," (and I have great affection for both "OHMSS" and "The Living Daylights")

Good point.

The only comparision I see, because they are very different films,is that -at the time- Goldfinger kicked the Bond frachise into high gear, and Casino Royale looks to do that for this generation of Bond.

Casino Royale also boosted the franchise. I took a couple of my buddies to the premire of Casino Royale, and they had never watched a james bond movie, and they loved it!!!. They all are exicitied for QOS. The next day after Casino Royale, they all came over and watched the entire collection.
