Detailed Synopsis:

In Mexico City during the Day of the Dead, James Bond kills several men arranging to blow up a stadium. He then gives chase to Sciarra, an assassin who survived the attack. In the ensuing struggle in a helicopter, Bond kills Sciarra and steals his ring, which is emblazoned with a stylised octopus.

On his return to London, news of the Mexico incident cause Bond to be indefinitely suspended from field duty by M, who is in the midst of a power struggle with Max Denbigh, aka 'C', the head of the privately-backed Joint Intelligence Service, which consists of the recently merged MI5 and MI6. C campaigns for UK to join "Nine Eyes", a global surveillance and intelligence co-operation initiative between nine member states. C also wants to close down the 00 section, believing it to be outdated.

Moneypenny brings Bond documents that have been found in the burned ruins of Skyfall Lodge. Bond shows Moneypenny the clue that led him to Mexico: a video the previous M made to express her last will, in wich she told him to find Sciarra, kill him and go to his funeral. Bond then charges Moneypenny to investigate about the "Pale King", a codename he heard before ruining Sciarra's plan. Bond is later briefed by Bill Tanner about C and recent terrorist attacks throughout the world while they are driven on the Thames to Q's secret workshop, passing by the abandoned and soon-to-be-demolished SIS building. There, on M's orders, Q injects Bond with the Smart Blood nanomachine technology, which allows to track his movements constantly. Q then introduces the Aston Martin DB10 to Bond, only to tell him that the car has been attributed to 009, and gives Bond a new wristwatch, before finally agreeing to cover Bond's movements for the next 48 hours.

Bond disobeys M's orders, steals the DB10 and travels to Rome to attend Sciarra's funeral. That evening, he saves the life of Sciarra's widow, Lucia, who tells him about the criminal organisation to which her husband belonged and the meeting they will hold at Palazzo Cadenza. Bond goes there and enters the meeting. Two members are briefing the assembly about the organization's recent successes in several criminal businesses and the leader suddenly enters, his face covered in the shadows. He mentions the events in Mexico and addresses Bond by name, prompting Bond to escape. A car chase through Rome ensues, with Bond pursued by Mr. Hinx, an assassin for the organisation. Moneypenny informs Bond that a reference he heard in both Mexico and the meeting will lead to Mr. White, a former member ofQuantum, a subsidiary of the Spectre organisation.

Bond also asks her to investigate Franz Oberhauser, whom the world believes to be dead. Bond travels to Austria to find White, who is dying ofthallium poisoning. He admits to growing disinfatuated with Quantum and tells Bond to find and protect his daughter, Dr. Madeline Swann, who will take him to L'Americain; this will in turn lead him to Spectre. White then commits suicide. Bond locates Swann, but she is abducted by Hinx. Bond rescues her and the two meetQ, who discovers that Sciarra's ring links Oberhauser to Bond's previous missions, identifyingLe Chiffre,Dominic GreeneandRaoul Silvaas Spectre agents. Swann reveals that L'Americain is a hotel in Morocco. The two travel to the hotel and find White had built a secret room where they find co-ordinates pointing them in the direction of a crater in the desert. They travel to the nearest point a train will go, but are again attacked by Hinx; Bond throws him off the train. They are escorted to a facility where Oberhauser reveals that Spectre has been staging terrorist attacks around the world, creating a need for the Nine Eyes program. In his role as director of the Joint Intelligence Service, C gives Spectre unlimited access to intelligence gathered by Nine Eyes. Bond is tortured and Oberhauser discusses their shared history: after the younger Bond was orphaned, Oberhauser's father became his temporary guardian. Believing that Bond supplanted his role as son, Oberhauser killed his father, staged his own death, and adopted the nameErnst Stavro Blofeldbefore going on to form Spectre. Bond and Swann escape, destroying the facility. As the Moroccan facility was just one node in a wider network, Bond and Swann return to London where they meet M,Bill Tanner, Q and Moneypenny; they move to arrest C and stop the launch of Nine Eyes, while Swann leaves Bond, telling him she cannot be part of a life involving espionage. En route the MI6 operatives are ambushed and Bond is kidnapped. M and the others escape and proceed to wait for C in his office, arrest him and shut down Nine Eyes before it launches; in an ensuing struggle, C is killed. Bond is taken to the oldMI6 building—derelict since the attack inSkyfall—but he disables his captors before entering. He meets Blofeld, who tells him the building is rigged to explode in three minutes, coinciding with Nine Eyes becoming active, and that Swann is hidden within it. Bond finds her and the two escape by boat onto theThames. They chase Blofeld's helicopter and shoot it down; it crashes ontoWestminster Bridge. Bond leaves Blofeld to be arrested by M and leaves with Swann.
