Why is there a ring that Octopoussy wore in the last Bond novel on a page about SPECTRE? SPECTRE was gone by then right? The ring is pretty cool though. It adds some more interest to the page, even if it isn't accurate. Just for the LOL's

In the movie "Thunderball," I couldn't help but notice that at about 37 minutes in, that SPECTRE had
stenographers and secretaries. Fiair Queastion, How would one become a secretary or stenographer for
an organizaton such as SPECTRE? Hope someone can help

I am not sure if this has been discussed on any forum or on this website, but Al Qaeda, as far as I am concerned, parallels SPECTRE.

Both have terrorized the world, both have cells in nearly every country, both have one man at top who always seems to evade the authorities, both have lived inside mountains, both have orchestrated incredible terror plots, both have millions of dollars for their e-v-il schemes. The only difference is that unlike SPECTRE, Al Qaeda has not held the world for ransom (yet!) in the manner SPECTRE did.

By the time James Bond becomes involved with SPECTRE, the organization has four major installations, with a fifth under development.

SPECTRE Headquarters is located in Paris, at #136 Boulevard Hoaussman. It exists behind a front: the International Brotherhood for the Assistance of Stateless Persons. At this location much of SPECTRE's administrative work is carried out.

Second in importance is SPECTRE Island, located somewhere in the Mediterranean. At this location the training and development of new agents is carried out. Presumably, members of the Execution Branch are also headquarted here.

The center for SPECTRE Operations in Continental Europe is the redoubt located atop Piz Gloria near Mürren in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland. It is from here that Irma Bunt directs SPECTRE European efforts, and it is this place which shall eventually become SPECTRE Headquarters after the collapse of the Japan Space Project.

The fourth major installation is the SPECTRE Atomic Research & Scientific Development Center, located on Crab Key in the Caribbean. It is at this location where James Bond first encounters SPECTRE, and is the first to be destroyed by him.

Blofeld's dream, however, was to create a larger and much more significant complex. With this in mind he became amenable to such large-scale schemes as Emilio Largo's NATO Project as a means to finance this effort. His ideas came a step closer to fruition when, with the assistance of the Red Chinese government, he was able to acquire and occupy a volcanic property on a Japanese Ama Island. Blofeld's intention was to eventually make this the new SPECTRE Headquarters and, with this in mind, he began allowing the increase of Japanese agents within SPECTRE's hierarchy.
