New theme song from Jack White and Alicia Keys!

Check out the debut of the second official Quantum of Solace trailer and theme song!

Projected US Release date: Nov 14, 2008

Plot Preview:

  • Producer Broccoli confirmed that Bond 22 would be a continuation of Casino Royale. In fact it supposedly "starts two minutes after Casino Royale ended" (Hmm. Craig says "twenty minutes," but Michael G. Wilson says "an hour"--perhaps we should synchronize watches!) Daniel Craig himself may have hinted at the direction of Quantum of Solace when he stated that the events of Casino Royale would lead Bond to "go out for revenge". If true, Quantum of Solace would be the first true 007 sequel. Eva Green has stated in an interview that Vesper's boyfriend mentioned in Casino Royale may be the villain in Quantum of Solace. It is also possible she may return in a flashback/video scene.
  • According to an EON press release:
(Caution-Spoilers)

  • Teaser poster (courtesy of 007.com)Quantum of Solace continues the high octane adventures of James Bond (Daniel Craig)in Casino Royale. Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (Judi Dench) interrogate Mr. White (Jesper Christensen), who reveals the organization which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined. Forensic intelligence links an MI6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a woman who has her own vendetta.

Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organization. On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world’s most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (Joaquin Cosio). Using his associates in the organization, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land. In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene’s sinister plan and stop his organization.”

Marc Forster interview
EON pictures originally wanted Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Changing Lanes) to direct but he did not agree with its production schedule so he bowed out.

Marc Forster, director of Monster's Ball and Finding Neverland, has been slated to helm the next film in the Bond franchise. The Swiss filmmaker recently wrapped the big-screen adaptation of the The Kite Runner. Before that, he tried comedy with Stranger Than Fiction; was nominated for a Golden Globe for his work on the Peter Pan-inspired drama Finding Neverland, which also landed Johnny Depp his second Oscar nomination; and directed Halle Berry to an Oscar win for Monster's Ball. It seems Halle didn't consult Forster when inking her deal for Catwoman....

"I have always been drawn to different kinds of stories and I have also always been a Bond fan, so it is very exciting to take on this challenge," Forster said. "The new direction that the Bond character has taken offers a host of new possibilities." He and Oscar-winning Crash and Million Dollar BabyPaul Haggis have completed the polish on a first draft written by Neil Purvis and Robert Wade.

Michael G. Wilson on working with Marc Forster: "We wanted a director who would work with the actors and attract great actors. Marc is also incredibly well prepared. He's the most prepared director I've ever worked with. Every scene in the picture has been planned – he's put all the camera positions in even. Everyone on the crew looks like geniuses – no one ever looks bad – because everybody knows what the next shot is, everyone's preparing for the next shot. No one ever gets caught out. It's the most calm, friendly set that you've ever been on.

Location video for "Quantum of Solace"
"Quantum of Solace" is currently lensing in Chile at the ESO facility in the remote, rather unworldly Atacana Desert. The domed Paranal Residencia built for the staff of the Very Large Telescope run by the ESO (The European Organization of Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere) is rumored to be standing in for the site of Dominic Greene's headquarters. Here's the ESO press release announcing filming. Next stops: Italy, Austria, then back to Pinewood in May

The Atacana desert location was the site of a media blitz that saw an international invasion of reporters with the resulting flood of press releases (and the same ratio of mis-reporting--look for a number of articles saying James Bond will appear "fat" at the end of the film, a result of a mis-interpretation of a Daniel Craig remark on how Bond needs to stay in shape!)

Video Blog:

The Official site for "Quantum of Solace," 007.com, has started a new feature--a video blog focussing on the behind-the-scenes work of the crew. The first entry is an introduction by Michael G. Wilson. See it here.
