Appears in:Goldfinger

Actress:
Honor Blackman

Background on Blackman: At 37, Honor Blackman was the oldest Bond Girl, but one of 007's most unforgettable lovers. The name ***** Galore caused controversy in the 1960s and this is one of the elements that makes ***** Galore so memorable.

Blackman made a name for herself in Britain as Cathy Gale, the first notable female assistant to Patrick MacNee on the classic action show The Avengers. MacNee would eventually also join the Bond franchise in View to a Kill, while two of her more notable successors (Diana Rigg and New Avenger Joanna Lumley) would both appear in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Who ***** is:
***** Galore is the sexy leader of ***** Galore's Flying Circus and plays an instrumental role in Auric Goldfinger's daring raid on Fort Knox.

***** Galore is only a shadow of her literary counterpart. While it is not mentioned in the film, ***** was a lesbian. This is hinted when Bond tries to charm her, to which she replies "I'm immune."

Bond babe name ranking:
  • #1 (Of course, naturally)

How she and Bond meet:
  • Bond regains consciousness onboard Goldfinger's personal jet to find ***** sardonically appraising him, leading to this classic exchange:
Bond: "Who are you?"
*****: "My name is ***** Galore."
Bond: (looks away and smiles) "I must be dreaming............"

    Defining dialogue:
    • "You can turn off the charm, Mr. Bond. I'm immune" - in response to Bond's attempts to charm her.
    • "I'm a damn good pilot. Period."
    • "I'm strictly the outdoors type."
    • "Skip it. I'm not interested. Let's go."

    Vital statistics:
    • 5' 6" 37C-23-35

How she helps save the day:
    • Although appearing to guide her Flying Circus in the distribution of the toxic nerve gas over Fort Knox for Goldfinger's "Operation Grand Slam", she ends up replacing the gas with a less toxic variety. ***** also informs the CIA about Goldfinger's plan allowing them to stop her employer's operation.

    Bikini moment:

    • None, but ***** rocked some kicking gear in the movie.

    Interesting trivia:
    • Worried about censorship, producers considered changing ***** Galore's name to "Kitty Galore". They kept the original name when British newspapers began to refer to Honor Blackman as "*****" in the lead up to production. And they say there's no bad PR............
    • The oldest bond girl
    • Compared to some of the harder surfaces which Blackman had to use her judo skills on The Avengers, she found it a greater relief that her "fight" with Sean Connery was on a much softer hay surface.

You know the scene where Pussy Galore's flying circus is dropping the "gas" everywhere. Well I'm pretty sure that those planes aren't air, air tight. So why would Mrs. Galore agree to using the planes to drop the gas?

It's a hell of a name... can anyone add something to this page to talk about how Pussy Galore got her name in the first place? It's so out there... so what's the explanation and how on earth do I make sense of it? Frankly, it's always made me a little uncomfortable.
