fox studiosEver since MGM’s financial problems went public late last month, the big question on everyone’s mind has been: What will happen to James Bond? MGM was responsible for releasing both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Presumably, at some point, there is supposed to be another sequel, a 23rd Bond movie. But if they’re going bankrupt, will it ever happen?

Yesterday we told you about a rumor making MGM Studiosthe rounds which claimed that 20th Century Fox was stepping in to deliver the money needed to get James Bond off and running again. Tonight we were contacted by official sources at MGM who were able to confirm that this rumor is entirely incorrect. Here’s what they told us:

“The rumors concerning Fox taking over the Bond franchise are incorrect, 007 is still very much with Leo.”

Sounds definitive. Not only will Fox have nothing to do with Bond 23, it seems like MGM is pretty adamant that neither will anybody else. If they want to march their way back towards profitability, I can’t imagine any better way to do it than releasing another, sure fire, Bond movie. Makes sense to me.
