| Roger Moore is Bond, and kinda mannequins his way through it. Racist little plot but a bit more hip than racist little book. Yaphet Kotto is not sure what movie he's in, can't maintain an attitude. Jane Seymour's not sure what movie she's in, feels she has to act. More chases, less material stringing movie together. Looking a little threadbare. Bond ends up with girl on train. | |
| Slobadog_Melosivec | Live And Let Die is the first Bond film to cast Roger Moore as James Bond. Moore makes a mixed first impression. The only trait that makes him seem suitable to be a MI6 agent is his ability to keep verbal and physical threats from fazing him. Otherwise he seems too harmless and lighthearted to be a professional spy and killer. Not that the plot doesn't require him to spy and kill. He just doesn't act as someone who thinks like a spy and killer. Although these inadequacies can be kinda entertaining in a less harsh and semi parody kind of way. The plot itself is overly simple and ordinary. It involves Bond investigating the deaths of several MI6 agents and in the process uncovering a plot by a island dictator to get everybody in America hooked on heroin with free samples so as to increase his market share. And of course Bond can not let such a scheme succeed. This very simple plot is made a lot more interesting due to its characters who are supposedly mostly stereotypes of black people because in the film they either deal drugs and or have metal claw hands and or do voodoo and or kill people with festive funerals and or eat fillets of soul and or call white people "honkey" and or are villains and or have entire neighborhoods mobilized to spy on you and have a sense of style. Apparently this is all offensive but I just found it really interesting, somewhat funny and stylish. Oddly enough the Bond girl Bond ends up with is not black. Man is she amazingly attractive though. The stylish characters and fun action scenes keep the overly simple plot a enjoyable ride until the latter third which unfortunately tends to get into overly long and repetitive action scenes and also keeps getting distracted by the sight of actor Clifton James who's character does not seem important enough to warrant all the attention the film gives him. While the film does manage to get its act back together by the very end it is still hard to forget the flaws of some of its key action scenes. Overall I found the film to be fun to watch but not among the best Bond films. If I did not like a occasional semi realistic and light-hearted Bond film and or if I did not enjoy the way black characters were portrayed in the film then I would probably have hated the film. |
| Moore4ever | "More Action. More Excitement. More Adventure...and Moore!" or so the slogan proclaims, to which I very much agree. To me, this is the best Bond movie in the series franchise. Mr. Saint himself leaps into the most famous role ever. Perhaps forever remembered as Sean Connery's true successor, Roger Moore starts as agent 007. To me, Roger Moore is the best Bond. The title song is truly incredible. A song that is implanted in your mind and you can't get out. Tee Hee is one of the most underestimated henchman. Next to Jaws, he is my favorite henchman. His fight with Bond on the train is one of best Bond has been in. Another overlooked fight. The alligator scence is a nail biter and the boat chase just completley steals the show! Yaphet Kotto as Mr.Big/Kanaga, was greatly protrayed, he had a good scheme. Taking a break from world domination was needed and Kananga did just that. The casting was perfect as well as the characters. M, Miss Moneypenny, Felix, Baron Samadi, Adam, Quarrel jr etc: just to name a few! Jane Seymour as the lovely Solitatire is gorgoues and a great choice as Roger Moore's first of many lead Bond girls to come. The era of Moore as 007 begins and movie goers would see him in a total of 7 films. The most of any Bond actor to date! And what a ride it was! As EON Productions simply said to the world from 1973 till 1985...Roger Moore IS James Bond. |
