As Licensed to Kill (LTK) has grown considerably over the past two years, the moderator team decided that it was time to explicitly lay out the policies for the wiki. Below, you’ll find a list of LTK policies and consequences for community members who choose to not follow these policies. Every community member is responsible for abiding by these policies. If you have any questions, please contact a member of the moderator team.

To start off, LTK is not Wikipedia, or mi6.co.uk or commanderbond.net or your own personal website. It is Licensed to Kill, a community wiki that encourages original contributions by our members. Please keep this in mind as you read through the policies. If you detect a tone in your readings, LTK has a 'hint of snark' as they say. While the moderator team prides itself on accuracy, you'll run across a point of view (and a bit of fun) on more than one occasion. This snarkiness is what we believe sets LTK apart from the other James Bond resources on the web.

Code of Conduct:

To foster the best possible experience for all, the James Bond Wiki community respectfully requests that its visitors and contributors honor the following code of conduct:


1) Play nicely with others

• Respect your peers — Treat others and their contributions with respect and foster considerate dialogue.
• Do not use offensive language — Inappropriate, crude, or abusive language is not only unacceptable, it’s a lousy way to convince anyone of your point.
• Remember, there are no stupid questions— Everyone’s input is welcomed and honored. “Flaming” others or demeaning their participation may build your self-esteem but itwon’t help build community.
• Report inappropriate behavior — Remove and/or report disrespectful or provocative content, but refrain from seeking vigilante justice.

2) Act in good faith

• Don’t pilfer material — Don’t publish content to which you have no rights. Period. Full stop.
• It’s about you, but not about YOU — This site exists to support an organic and communal body of information. Shameless self-promotion and hawking of wares are strictly verboten.

3) Promote the community spirit

• Use the Moderators as a resource — Reach out to the Moderators for guidance or advice on how best to leverage the site. They are there to help.
• Share the experience — Be an ambassador of the community by enrolling others in the discussion, sponsoring a good debate, and setting a good, collaborative example.

Policies:

1) Plagiarism/Original Content:

• Plagiarism is the intentional or unintentional duplication of copywriten material without proper credit given to the original author. Plagiarism is not only illegal, but it serves to cheapen the quality, original content on LTK. Our own voice gets lost in the voice of others, making LTK just like every other Bond resource on the web. LTK is not Wikipedia. It is LTK. We will not tolerate community members who copy/paste from Wikipedia. If someone wants to read a Wikipedia article, they can go to Wikipedia. We want the content on LTK to be original, so there’s no place for pirated content anywhere within our wiki, citation or not. Please feel free to use Wikipedia as a resource for creating your carefully crafted contribution to LTK. 2) Self-Promotion:

• Self-promotion encompasses two practices: 1) posting of websites (either related or not related to James Bond) on the wiki, and 2) claiming credit or “ownership” of a particular page. LTK is a wiki, and as such, it is a product of our community. The community “owns” the wiki. Every page on the wiki is created, edited, and maintained by a number of different community members. When community members announce “Participate in my poll” or “Look at the great page that I made”, it serves to weaken the notion of “community” and emphasize the individual. If you want to take direct credit for your contributions, then create your own website with your own name at the top. We’re here to work together because we love James Bond, not because we’re after recognition for our work. It’s perfectly acceptable for a community member to be thanked by other community members for their hard work (especially with the complement function), but it is not acceptable to claim ownership over any particular page. Contribute to the wiki because you want to… not because you’re seeking attention.
• An exception to our self-promotion policy concerning websites is the links and resources page. If you’d like for your website to be featured on the links page, please email one of the moderators and we can add you to the list.
  

3) Contribution Padding:

• Contribution padding concerns repeatedly making extremely minor edits to a particular page (or series of pages) in an effort to increase the number of contributions credited to a community member. Contribution padding makes it next to impossible for moderators (and other community members) to keep up with changes to the wiki and it sets an unacceptable model for appropriate posting patterns for new members of the community. Padding isn't necessarily intentional, but it's disruptive to site administration and makes it more difficult to ensure the quality of the content that's being contributed to the wiki.
• Contribution padding can also occur on the discussion board. The discussion board is a forum for discussion, and as such, message board posts should contain a substantive contribution. It is not acceptable to post a message under the Dr. No Film page stating “I like this movie”. This is considered contribution padding. “I liked this movie because it introduced me to Bond and Connery is young and hunky” is a much more appropriate message board post. The first example contributes nothing to any discussion. The second sets the stage for a response.
• Padding also refers to the creation of duplicate pages or pages with duplicate content. If a quote page already exists for all of the films, creating another page titled “Dr. No Quotes” is redundant and considered contribution padding. If you’re not sure about whether or not you should create a page or if the wiki already contains the content that you want to add, ask a moderator.
  
• Tips to avoid paddding:
• Ideally, pages are edited as succinctly as possible. Do all the work you want to do on a particular page, and then save the page. If you’re creating a page or adding a bunch of content, prepare the content in a text or word document first, and then copy/paste it to the wiki. Start working offline, and when you’ve completed your contribution, begin copying it to the wiki. It’s perfectly acceptable to save a page from time to time to avoid having information (and hard work) lost, but it is not acceptable to edit a page 30 times when the page itself only contains 30 words. This sounds ridiculous, but our contribution padding policy exists because community members have repeatedly engaged in this kind of unacceptable behavior.
• One way to ensure that you are not accused of contribution padding is to fill out the “edit note” form that appears every time a page is edited. By filling out this field explicitly, the moderators and community members will know exactly how you edited the page and the moderators will be able to ascertain whether or not the contributor is padding.
  
• Take your time when crafting your content and really try to plan out your contributions so that they’ll really make a quality addition to the website. We want LTK to be a quality wiki. We don’t care how large the wiki is or how many contributions you make. Contributions that clearly lack any sort of planning cheapen the hard work of the entire community and will no longer be tolerated.

4) Disruptive Behavior:

• Flaming (name calling, use of profanity, personal attacks), trolling (“stalking” particular members and flaming), and all around discourteous behavior will not be tolerated. You can make your point without calling someone an “idiot” or “stupid”. Disruptive behavior is defined loosely as any kind of behavior that serves as a detriment to the notion of community we're trying to foster here.
  
• Disruptive behavior also includes pitting moderators against other moderators or administrators. This is the classic strategy employed by children, i.e. "Since daddy told me 'no', I'll go ask mommy". If you ask for something from one moderator (e.g. "Can you add a link to a page I created to the homepage") and that moderator tells you "no", do not ask another moderator to do the same thing. This kind of behavior is manipulative and is not appropriate for LTK community members. Moderators have the best interests of the community in mind when they make their decisions, which means that sometimes, an individual's requests have to be denied for the benefit of the community. If a moderator tells you "no", please don't take it personally.
• Logging in with an anonymous account or alternate account to engage in disruptive behavior will not be tolerated in LTK. Administrators have the ability to ban IP addresses, which basically means that a particular computer can be banned.
  

Consequences:

Community members who violate the policies detailed above risk having their accounts banned from LTK. The moderator team will do everything possible to avoid banning community members, but members who repeatedly ignore the policies stated above will move through the consequence levels described below. Community members who have had disciplinary action taken against them will have a summary of their status on Disciplinary Action Page.Page. Also, keep in mind that administrators have the ability to ban IP addresses. If your IP address gets banned, ALL of a community members accounts will become inactive.

1st and 2nd Offense:

• Warning. A moderator will contact you via the wiki email client notifying you of the offense and will suggest strategies for you to avoid breaking the wiki policies.

3rd Offense:

• Temporary Ban. Community members who break the wiki policies three times will have their accounts locked for 2 weeks.

4th Offense:

• Permanent Ban. Community members who break the wiki policies four times will have their accounts permanently banned from LTK. Under no circumstances will banned account be reactivated.

And here’s a bit of advice about how to avoid breaking the policies… when in doubt, ask a moderator BEFORE you do something that could go against one of the policies described on this page. It is not acceptable to break the policy and then claim to have not understood. The moderator team will work with you to clarify any of the policies that may be confusing, but it’s your responsibility to ask. Also, keep in mind that no moderator is "out to get" any particular community member. These policies exist for the benefit of the community. They encourage community members to interact with other community members in respectifulrespectful ways while simultaneously encouraging community members to help make the LTK community the premirepremier James Bond Resource on the web.
