James Bond's birth year is unknown because Ian Fleming changed the dates and times of events many times.

But in the Bond-books there are different hints to what year Bond may be born in: In You Only Live Twice Tiger Tanaka, a Japanese secret agent, states that Bond was born in the year of the rat, which hints at 1924. In the novel, M also writes an obituary for James Bond after believing him to be dead. M writes that Bond left school when he was 17 years old and joined the Ministry of Defence in 1941 and therefore claiming an age of 19. If Bond was 17 in 1941, then he was born in 1924.

But Moonraker (which is set in 1954) states that Bond's age is 37. This would place Bond's date of birth somewhere between 1917-1918. In From Russia with Love it is stated that the Moonraker mission was three years prior. This would change Bond's age to around 40.

Generally many researchers and biographers concluded that he was born either in 1917, 1920, 1921, or 1924.
