Happy birthday Mr. LazenbyThis is a featured page

Hot on the heels of Mr. Connery, one of the least known Bond actors, George Lazenby, turns 70 years old today.

The only 'single-serving' Bond actor, Lazenby was an Australian model who famously somewhat stalked the producer while vying for the starring role in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Only to throw the role away by acting like a bit of a prat during the promotional tour. Although I clearly prefer Connery in the role (for all time at that), this disappoints me. Lazenby had real potential. He had the jaw, athleticism and masculinity to pull off the role. And, to the surprise of many, he showed some real emotional range in the concluding scene in which his wife, dear Tracy, was killed.

Lazenby's career never really took off after OHMSS. Sure he had plenty of small film and TV roles from The Kentucky Fried Movie to Baywatch, but they probably aren't what he envisioned in a post-Bond world.

Here's to you Mr. Lazenby. You had my attention - for a moment. Like many potential good things in Hollywood - it was fleeting.
