RE: Detailed content synopsis needed
May 18 2008, 9:41 AM EDT Essentially what we have is a adjoining of two Fleming short stories, Risico and For your eyes only. There is a fine synopsis of the film provided by someone else so what I'll do essentially is give some basic details of the two short stories. Both are excellent and quick reads: In For your eyes only "M"s friends the Havelocks are murdered and M makes a personal request of 007 to engage in a "revenge" mission. He encounters the Havelocks daughter, I don't want give too much of the story away and would strongly recommend anyone with an interest read it. Risico is essentially a story of Greek smugglers. The film version of the two is excellent with really fine blending of elements from both stories as well as other Fleming books. The keel hauling scene for example was lifted from the Live and Let Die book (or at least elements of it were). A very exciting part of that particluar book well utilized in this film. Neither story had enough "meat on the bones" to be a full length motion picture of it's own. As I mentioned, I don't want to give too much away but hopefully your interest is piqued enough to acquire the book of short stories entitled "For your eyes only". I always find it interesting how the Fleming stories area dapted to the screen. In some cases they are almost verbatim and in others the only similarity are the titles of the films themselves. I have to assume this may be because the stories can be somewhat "dated" by the time the films actually go into production. That isn't to say that all the Fleming stories aren't great reads but one only has to read Fleming's descriptions of locations to realize that the world Fleming lived in is a far different one than exists today. Many fans of the Fleming books for example feel that Moonraker and Golden Gun are two of the weakest efforts but I found both as throroughly enjoyable as the rest.
