Diddy blows thousands on Bond audition tape
Se
an "Diddy" Combs is so sure he will be picked as the first black James Bond, he has splashed out $750,000 on making his 007 audition tape.
The hip-hop mogul has previously spoken of his desire to play an African-American incarnation of the suave superspy, and has set plans in motion to ensure he lands the coveted role.
Combs traveled to the luxurious South of France to film the promo near the Casino Royale, the inspiration behind current Bond Daniel Craig's debut film in the long-running franchise.
The rapper took to the skies in a helicopter, wearing a tuxedo and surrounded by his very own Bond girls.
And the star is adamant that after Craig has surrendered his license to kill, he will be in line for the part, because of U.S. president-elect Barack Obama's historic victory at the American election earlier this month.
He tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "This is my audition tape for the next James Bond. There is a black president, and it's time for there to be a black Bond."
But he's facing some stiff competition -- R&B hitmaker Akon and Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx are also reportedly eager to play the legendary secret agent.

I am not a racist, in fact the farthest from it but I don't think a black bond would be very appealing to most audiences.
I personally think that Craig's Blond hair is far enough to deviate from the original character. Also, all the black actors who are saying they want to be Bond are all American's, not from the Brittish Isles. |

As a black man, and a Bond fan I can't help but roll my eyes and groan at the thought of "p diddy" being James bond, the subtle confidence and charm of 007 is something that I am positive mr combs could never pull of. one only need look at any of his ham-fisted attempts at cinema to know that he has nothing close to the skills required to fill the tux. If ever there was to be a black james bond the closest match would probably be Denzel Washington, but I feel that the movies have been getting too "americanized" in the first place, I can't watch bond drive a ford in casino royale without fighting the urge to puke. Daniel Craig is doing an excellent job, I think it's far too early to be sizing him up for the casket.

Well if I had to choose from Diddy or Foxx it would definitely be Foxx.

Really, is it that much of a surprise that Diddy and Foxx want to play Bond? Who *doesn't* want to be Bond? They can get in line with the rest. This is the Daniel Craig era -- everyone else can take a number.
In the meantime, if they want to blow money on audition tapes and stump for the role, more power to them. It's the land of opportunity, and if Roberto Begnini and Dennis Rodman and Carrot Top all want to be the new Bond as well, they should all take their best shots. Heck, I'll throw my hat in the ring while we're at it. When I was 11 years old, I made my own homemade gunbarrel scene shooting down a toilet-paper tube and using a paper cutout for the dripping blood. I can give Diddy a run for his money. Wonder where that tape ended up? |
