Alec TrevelyanActor:
Who he is:
  • A former "00" agent (006), Trevelyan staged his own death and established the "Janus" crime syndicate at the end of the Soviet Union. The son of two Lienz Cossacks, a group of Russian Cossacks who fought with Nazi Germany against Stalin. They were betrayed by the British at the Austrian city of Lienz after WWII, and they were executed or send into gulags by Stalin. His parents ashamed of surviving such an ordeal, committed suicide. He lives on a ICBM missile train and wants revenge on England for their betrayal.
  • Alec Trevelyan was James Bond's close friend and ally while working together for M16.
  • Trevelyan became head of the Janus crime organization and wanted to avenge his parent's betrayal and deaths. He became cynical and embittered against England and especially James Bond since he displays his undying loyalty towards his work, Queen and Country.

Attempted methods of killing Bond:
  • Confining him in a helicopter with Natalya Simonova and launching the helicopters MATRA missiles at 007. Bond escapes by pressing the ejector seat button.
  • In the climax of the film, he tries to push Bond off the small platform where he and Bond are fighting.
  • Locking Bond and Natalya in the ICBM train with a bomb.
  • General Ouromov, Xenia and Russian troops try to kill Bond numerous times.
How he is dispatched:
  • Bond pushes him off a platform at the end of the movie and he falls to the bottom of the antenna dish and coughs up blood, then he is crushed to death by the exploding platform.

Evil scheme:
  • Use the Russian Goldeneye satellite orbiting the planet, he planned on using it's EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) generator to disrupt banking computers and steal many millions of dollars from the British economy electronically. All while erasing the records of the event at the same time, which would set England back economically to the Stone Age.

How plans were foiled:
  • Natalya and Bond destroy the Goldeneye by first overriding the co-ordinates of the satellite: Forcing it into re-entering the atmosphere. Then, Bond jams the antenna in order to disrupt Boris' transmission between the Control Center and the satellite.
  • Bond kills him

Defining Dialogue:
"We're both orphans James. But where your parents had the luxury of dying in a climbing accident: Mine survived the British betrayal and Stalin's execution squads. But my father couldn't let himself, or my mother live with the shame of it. MI-6 figured I was too young to remember. And in one of life's little ironies: The son went to work for the government whose betrayal caused the father to kill himself, and his wife..."

"You know, James?... I was always better."

"What's true is that in 48 hours you and I will have more money than God. And Mr. Bond here will have a small memorial service, with only Moneypenny and a few tearful restaurateurs in attendance."

"So, what's the choice James? Two targets, [and] time enough for one shot. The girl?, the mission."

"I might as well ask you if all the vodka martinis have silenced the screams of all the men you've killed. Or if you'll find forgiveness in the arms of all those willing women, for all the dead ones you failed to protect."

"Closing time James! Last call !" (opening scene in the Russian chemical weapons factory, while he was an MI6 agent)
"Closing time James. Last call..." (Soviet statues graveyard scene while he was Janus)

"Did you ever ask why? Why we toppled all those dictators? Undermined all those regimes? Only to come home: 'Well done, good job, but sorry old boy. Everything you risked your life and limb for has changed.'" - Alec
"It was the job we were chosen for." - Bond
"Of course you'd say that. James Bond, Her Majesty's loyal terrier, defender of the so-called faith." - Alec
"[as Bond draws his gun] Oh, please, James, put it away. It's insulting to think I haven't anticipated your every move."

"Kill him. The man just won't take a hint."

"What's the matter, James? No glib remark? No pithy comeback?"

"See you in hell, James."

"Half of everything is luck, James." - Alec
"And the other half?" - Bond
"Fate." - Alec

"By the way, I did think of asking you to join my little scheme, but somehow I knew... 007's loyalty was always to the mission... Never to his friend."

"It wasn't God who gave me this face. It was you, setting the timers for 3 minutes instead of 6."
"Am I supposed to feel sorry for you?" - Bond
"No. You're supposed to die for me." - Alec

"For England James?" - Alec
"No. For me." - Bond

"Why can't you just be a good boy and die?" - Alec
"You first." - Bond
"You, [as he glances up looking at Xenia Onatopp] second. UP!"

The physical confrontation between ex-006 and 007 in the climax is right up there with the fight between Bond and Grant in FRWL. Those two fights, and the battle between Peter Franks and 007 in DAF are my favorite fight scenes in the entire series.

After seeing GoldenEye, it left me with a couple weird questions regarding Trevelyan and his position within "film continuity" (such as it is)
1. Do you think Trevelyan was the same 006 who took part in "Operation Thunderball"? Considering 00 Agents seem to come and go often, would he have been part of this or would he come in after that happened? (in a weird way I just imagine Trevelyan taking Bond's place in Canada if he was)
2. If GE takes place in 1995 and the prologue takes place in 1986, then does that mean Trevelyan's "death" occurred between AVTAK and TLD? (considering this is between Moore's last and Dalton's first, it's hard to imagine either part of this...though on one hand, Moore did sneak into Russia once in AVTAK...and on another, Trevelyan's "death" could have lead to a shaping up of the 00s, thereby leading to the "Gibraltar incident" in TLD)

And yes, I know I'm thinking too hard but these things popped in my head.
