era: You Only Live Twice

Unsatisfied with SPECTRE's standing in the world and ready to corner the market on Big Crime once and for all, Ernie the Cat pulled out all the stops: he invested heavily in space technology, commissioned a wildly extravagant but extremely impressive new lair in a hollowed-out Japanese volcano, filled a decorative pool with minion-chomping piranha, and most importantly, chose a completely new host with a face designed to impress.

His new Blofeld puppet was a short, bald, bug-eyed, sneering, ill-mannered monstrosity with precisely the kind of half-mad glower that at once inspires respect and terror. And at first, the new "Blofeld" paid off: he was quickly able to secure a lucrative terror contract with Red China, thus setting aside the extortion business with all its difficulties, delays, and pitfalls, and focusing directly on stirring up an actual global nuclear war. (Though it must be noted that Ernie couldn't resist extorting a little extra cash from his Chinese customers; old habits indeed die hard.)

Not all was well in SPECTRE Crater, though. In addition to being plagued by all-too-familiar levels of incompetence among his agents, Ernie was equally thrown off balance by a total lack of compatibility with his new host. Nowhere near the skilled cat-handler that his original puppet had been, this new "Blofeld" was clumsy and awkward, completely incapable of holding a cat properly. The feline mastermind now found himself devoting as much time to keeping his host in line as he did to overseeing SPECTRE operations. There were more than a couple clawing incidents, one of which resulted in a rather nasty scar down the length of his host's already unpleasant face. At one point, Ernie even considered personally feeding this particular "Blofeld" host to the piranhas.

These distractions cost him dearly, and in the end, as his volcano lair began to disintegrate around him in a storm of fire and lava and ninjas, Ernie simply tried to put as much space between himself and his host as possible. He'd backed a bad horse this time, a comparative weakling completely lacking in finesse or style. It was back to the drawing board for Ernie and for SPECTRE.

"Idiot! Where did you learn how
to hold a cat?!"

Cat not happy."That's it. To hell with you.
Let me out of here."
