The tradition of the Bond films before CR was slowly killing it, they needed to do something different. That's why CR was so successful. The old traditions we all know and love from the past will slowly creep back in over the next few films (like Moneypenny and Q). So, yes. Craig is not yet the Bond that we know from the first 20 movies. He is BECOMING the Bond that we know from the first 20 movies and so far he's doin a great job.
